I agree, there is something wrong somewhere. When MON & Roy first came on board I thought they would have no problem convincing players to join us. Now they can't even keep who we have already.

A bit harsh on them I feel. They were actually playing the guy at senior level.....you'd have to blame Rice primarily if he jumps ship.

They’ve done their best to involve him, I don’t think they can be faulted for not capping him earlier.

But if we’re really as disorganized as many believe we are behind the scenes then perhaps that is why he is having doubts.

A lad that has been capped 3 times for us (albeit friendlies) and played for us all the way up along should not need to have ''more time'' to think about who he now wants to play for. Rice would be twenty times worse than Grealish if he were to switch.

You could look at it both ways. You could be the main man for Ireland, a country that you've previously said there is no decision to be made and you are 100% committed to, for the next 12 years, or you could go and become one of 12 players competing for the same position in the England squad.
Money isn't going to be an issue for a premier league footballer for the rest of their lives.
Yes England are going to be a more attractive option at the minute, but you could be similar to what Gareth Bale is for Wales at the minute for Ireland for the next decade (not saying they're similar players) or you could go and get 10 caps for England.

Sad times. You can't blame MON for this. The lad has been included and has been capped. He has been courted by England and has now decided that there is a decision to be made. I can't see him coming back to us unfortunately. I think he will regret it. England had a one good Summer out of the last 22.

For some of these lads, 1 cap for England would mean more to them than 100 caps for Ireland. That is the way it is. Rice probably watched England at the World Cup, saw how far they went (due to a soft draw) and wondered to himself if that could be him someday. But after getting 3 caps for us at senior level, one would have to be disgusted if he jumped ship at this stage.

As for Declan Rice, he's a bit of a weasel for doing that to you guys. No surprise though, England are becoming quite aggressive with dual national players.

The agents are no help either. Telling these guys they'll make millions and millions once they have the England shirt on.

Can't believe this situation has been allowed happen again. It's embarrassing.
There's one common factor between both situations in the shape of Martin O'Neill and one can only wonder if either Grealish or Rice felt any passion to play for him and in his system.

Well to be fair, Harry Maguire is supposedly worth 75 million pound after playing well against the mighty Panama, Tunisia and Colombia.

Maguires not a whole lot better than Shane Duffy.

England players do make far more money than non English players.

Yes....a slight loss in form for Rice in a year or two and he ends up in a bottom 6 EPL side or a Championship side and there's not a hope he'll get anywhere near the England team.

This has all been handled very badly.

He should have had plenty of time over the summer to make that decision and just come out with it and start the season on a clean slate!?!

You're miles off the pace with that shout. MON did his bit, he picked him and capped him. Managers come and go anyway. If the lad feels Irish then he will want to play for us irrespective.

I'd say the abuse he's getting will make this decision very easy for him anyway

He could play 100 times for Ireland and never play in world cup or euro's , he could play 4-5 years for England at his peak, get 30 caps but play in a few major championships. Squad is poorest I've ever seen, no out and out goal poacher, no creativity in nidfield, f*cked if anything happens Randolph and apart from Coleman, Duffy, Doherty, Hendrick and Ward....maybe Arter and Clark, not many who are going to start 20+ games in premier league this season. O'Dowda isn't first choice at Bristol City, Horgan couldn't get game at Preston last year, Meyler is a 6/10 midfielder in poor Reading side. For Rice, its a question does he want to slog it out for Ireland for sake of his family loyalties or does he want to challenge himself for a more competitive national team with better set up, better prospects even if it means a shorter international career.
