A nice bit of luck to help break the goal drought. Good to see. Boro fans praising his overall performance too, so the goal seems well deserved. This after Wilder backed Connolly in the post-match conference for the Man Utd game (where Connolly didn't take a penalty): “Everybody makes incredible instant judgement straight away. I don’t, because he’s a good player. His CV is good, his pedigree is good, his attitude is good. He’ll be fine.” Hopefully he can build on this and get some real momentum going now.

Delighted for Connolly to get off the mark. If they go up and he can play a vital part who's to say they won't sign him in the summer. If not hopefully he can kick on potentially get another loan to the Championship next year with Boro or someone else.
A season or two playing regularly at that level is better for his development then the stop start situation he found himself in at Brighton. Wilders comments about him recently have also been encouraging regarding his attitude etc. Wilder is an open book if he's not on it attitude wise you would know it.

I think that could be the ideal scenario. Things go well with Boro & they sign him permanently, even if they don't get promoted this season, they'd be odds on for promotion next season with Wilder having a full season & a summer transfer window to work with. I don't think he has a future at Brighton.

Encouraging that he got a start again so quickly after being dropped. Hopefully with the goal as fortunate as it was will get him in the team next time out again. Similar to Idah at the beginning of the year you just thought they needed some jammy goal to go in and it would do wonders to the confidence. Idah kicked on from there and now it's up to Connolly to do the same. Needs at least 5+ goals for Boro to think about retaining him next season. There's an argument to be made that the best case scenario is him playing with Boro in the Championship next season and getting 30/40 games instead of being in a struggling prem team.

good to see wilder putting faith in him last few games. 90 min tonight, and 74, 90, 83 in each of their 3 prev matches. starting in a good team fighting for promotion, good to see him score again

Wilder put faith in Connolly and Balogun, two yound strikers. Both scored last night. Fingers crossed Connolly can stay in the side until the end of the year and stick a few more goals away. I'm not ure he has a future back at Brighton but a few more goals will get him a transfer to a decent Championship team and a full season next year as a starting CF will do him the world of good.
