Some posters have a fascination with the idea that players should head off to Eurpean clubs instead of dropping down to the championship. It isnt realistic to think that a decent European team is gonna be looking at a club like Brighton and thinking some young Irlsh kid who hasnt had much impact over the last two years is worth taking a risk on. A championship club is his best option at this stage and hopefully he gets his head down and makes the most of it.

They were extremely innovative in terms of how they set their team up when they went up - Most teams couldn't figure them out.

why this love for wilder? He got relegated with Sheffield United and broke all sorts of records for the wrong reasons. He then upped and left when the going got tough.
Connolly would be far better off going abroad and expanding his horizons.

I think Wilder could be great for him, both for mentality and for style of football. I think the lad has lots of ability and should run rings arounkost championship defenders if he gets his head down.

Sounds like the move is on and the medical is today. Connolly has the potential to be very good at that level, but he can't afford any messing around or slacking off. It could be a career defining period for him. Middlesbrough fans seem happy with the prospect of him joining anyway.

To be clear, I wasn't saying Connolly will turn out to be as good as Duffer (or even nearly as good). Duffer was an all-time Ireland great, one of the best players we have ever had, and very few players in any era (if any) will have his talent. I'm just saying I wouldn't be writing Connolly off at 21 like some seem to be doing. I believe Connolly will be a valuable player for Ireland if he can stay injury free for a while, and get a run of games, especially at Championship level for a few seasons while he is still young and learning. A loan to Middlesborough would be great in that regard.

A very good move. Hopefully himself and Obafemi can have a decent 2nd-half of the season instead of more constant stop-start-stop action that we've become accustomed to. I'm not concerned about Parrott as he gets OK minutes and anytime I watch him actually plays quite well. Lasty need Idah out of Norwich. Am concerned he's too close to the first team to be loaned but you never know, and a loan would be great to see. |

BBC report suggests a loan move to Middlesbrough may be on. Would be a good move for him imo

That's very much not how Middlesbrough will be playing under Chris Wilder.

going to Boro would be really disappointing and show a distinct lack of ambition. is his development going to develop from getting to watch balls lumped up high and hard at him? He'll get no protection from the refs either. i would worry that the physical hoofball merchants in the Championship will only knock lumps out of him.
maybe the likes of josh cullen could have a word and persuade him of the benefits of a move to belgium or holland? he should be finding a league to play in that suits his technical strengths. A more technical less physical league gives him better chances to succeed.

Boro feels like a really good move. An old school manager. A city at the far end of the country with less distraction. Wilder normally plays two strikers and they have a 6ft 1 Slovakian striker Sporar for him to play off.
I think Connolly could make a position wide of a 3 but surely can make hay off a big man up front. Himself and Maupay were a strange combo for Brighton. They just couldn't click ever. Getting him closer to goal in a team that are trying to be direct will hopefully help.

This is a positive. We thought 12 months ago if these younger lads don't come good we can forget it. Now we can let them develop in peace and if one of them comes good they come good. Connolly needs this badly and ideally will spend next year down the Championship too. Get a run of games a goal or two some confidence with it. Middlesbrough aren't teeming with attackers if he does it right he ought to be starting down the lines. That's if he's going there. It might be rumours but Brighton really ought to for their own sake and Connolly's.
