Of all our young strikers, Connolly has been by far the most impressive at the top level so far. I think he's next in line after Parrott in terms of raw ability. Feel a bit sorry for him playing alongside Maupay who is an exceptionally greedy player; whereas Connolly tries to create chances for him, Maupay seems to actively avoid returning the favour.

Molumby could be playing Premiership football with either Brighton or Millwall, should they get promoted and sign him. I would anticipate the former, the loan spell has given him the chance to prove his worth and he's taken it. I hope Brighton stay up and think they will. O'Hora was one of only six from their under-23s to be given new contracts so they do rate him there and he has a chance.

the one thing with Connolly and obafemi is we will be very dangerous on the counterattack and no matter what guys believe we will still be set up in defensive formation against better teams than us.
And this pace will be huge plus for us especially off the bench early in their international career

I thought they had a very good first half and said as much. Leicester started playing after the break and Brighton then struggled in any forward capacity (which is where my interest was, looking at Connolly), but were comfortable enough for the point. I'd say they are almost guaranteed to stay up now, as expecting the others below to get many pts is expecting a lot at this stage.
Really hope to see Molumby in that midfield next season in the PL. |

Kenny is adamant we won't play on the counter attack, but I'd agree with you - if we try to go toe to toe against the big European teams away from home it is unlikely to go well for us.

He's closer to his year of birth than the average age of death, could we argue he hasn't even been born yet?

Only saw the first half yesterday but he was the best player on the park for that 45, quick, determined, clever and classy.
If his injuries are behind him, Kenny will start him. Streets ahead of any of the forward players McCarthy used (yeah I know McCarthy used him in his last couple of qualifiers). The lad is ready in my opinion.

It’s typical of us that we have pretty much nothing coming through up front for 20 years and then have about 5.
Looking at how Kenny sets up in 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 Id say Connolly will immediately be putting pressure on McClean on the left. Over the next year or two, Robinson might have to get used to playing on the right or competing with Obafemi (not a natural position for Obafemi by any means). I suppose that leaves Idah, Parrott, McGoldrick, and Long competing for number 9. You can always see Parrott dropping back as a 10, but Kenny has spoken about him as an orthodox number 9 in the past.

If we were playing tomorrow, I'd have Connolly in the starting 11.
Our back 4 picks itself (bar the Coleman/Doherty conundrum) and the McCarthy would be in front on those. The big questions are who else would be in the team as we've options. Personally, I'd have Molumby in based on what I've seen at U21 level and for Milwall all year. Brings a lot of energy to the table, which we badly need. The critical #10 is up in the air. Up front would have to be Long until such time as an Idah or Parrott come into their respective first teams. I appreciate Long is not prolific, and putting McG in behind him means we'd be looking for goals from elsewhere...hence Connolly out wide and, maybe, Obafemi on the other side?
Some team to play in the NL anyway and see what happens. Likely get overrun in midfield! |
