Unusual to see a player actually making a step up after being released.

Not overly surprised about Long. I saw him play a couple of times for the U-21s, didn't strike me as much of a player. He was getting very little game time at Cambridge anyway.

He seemed to me to be extremely uncomfortable on the ball and not particularly fast or agile. Maybe he's very solid defensively or something, I can't think of any other reason Reading would have kept him on this long.

No, he is poor defensively too, I really don't know what he brings. He started the first few games of the season and since then has only really been used in the checkatrade trophy. I don't think he was thought any higher of at Luton which leads me to think he will struggle to get a league club on departure from Reading. Maybe he was good enough at conference level? Not sure how his spell at Braintree worked out.

Fair enough, perhaps he'll have to look at building his way up from the conference or a weaker LOI side so.

Newport County have released Josh O'Hanlon and allowed Reece Grego-Cox to return to QPR at the end of his loan spell. You'd imagine a move back to the LOI would be best for O'Hanlon.
