Danny Rogers going to Falkirk on loan from Aberdeen for the season, according to the never ending source of info that is the sky sports yellow infobar/ticker thing. Always hard to know with young keepers, but going on his performances for our U21s, this lad has a chance of bigger & better things.

Transfer news and an apology here.

Your Under 21 goalie Danny Rogers has joined Falkirk for another season again on loan from Aberdeen.

I had previously posted that Rogers would be definitely be Aberdeen's No. 1 this coming season but they went and bought Joe Lewis and Neil Alexander instead. Sorry about that !

As it happens, quite a lot of the Aberdeen fans were disappointed, they wanted Rogers given a run of games to show what he can do.

Manchester United’s 18-year-old central defender has, according to reports, joined Burnley on a three year deal. Dunne is from Dundalk and it is from there that the news has surfaced this morning.

Dunne has been involved with United since he was aged 10 and joined the club full time when he signed a four year contract on his 16th birthday in October 2013. Despite his young age, he was a regular starter in their under-21 team last season.

Think that was always his level, might work out well for both of them. I honestly thought he would end up at Swindon again.

Saw him play a few times in the championship and the game woud just ass him by, he would hardly touch the ball. Capable of some great goals, has a great first touch, just never got into a position to use it.

He's a bit of waster, no doubt about that. However I do believe there's a fairly decent striker there when he finds his form; great first touch, good turn of pace and a thunderbolt of a shot. Consistency has always let him down of course.

David Forde on season long loan to Portsmouth (Paul Cook the manager there).

Would suspect given his age and moving from league 1 to league 2, his Irish career is at an end, barring some huge injury goalkeeping crisis.

At least it's educational, finding out there's a team called Ebbsfleet for a start. Ermm

Disappointing that it's looking like no PL moves for Jeff Hendrick or Robbie Brady. On a quick count up that leaves the probable first eleven as, 6 PL and 5 championship. Of the 6 PL only 2 look definite starters ; Seamus Coleman and Shane Long. The others : Darren Randolph (definite reserve) and 3 it's hard to be sure about ; Jonathan Walters, John o'shea and Stephen Ward.

It's not ideal.

Transfer window doesn't close until 31st August so I'd expect there to be a bit more activity involving some of our guys.

James McCarthy and James McClean will be starters in the PL as will Stephen Ward.

As long as the likes of Hoolahan, Hendrick, Brady, Duffy and Keogh are playing regularly and playing well in the Championship, I'd be happy enough.

Westwood might find himself in line for No. 1 this campaign if Randolph's situation doesn't improve.

I wasn't counting James McClean in the first eleven as I don't think he's quite there, more like first impact sub, but it's close. I somehow left out James McCarthy Confused
Hopefully Westwood and Martin O'Neill had time to sort out their differences while they were away at the Euros.

So basically this thing wraps up with one positive move (maybe 2 if you include O'Dowda's earlier move upwards) for Jeff Hendrick. Just talking about the senior squad members, I know the likes of Egan has also moved upwards, but overall, it has been a window of downward moves for Irish players, and had one of our better ones in McCarthy not been injured, he probably would have moved downward too.

It seems the likes of the long top level careers enjoyed by the likes of Duff, Keane, Dunne, JOS & yes, Whelan are not going to be the norm for us from here in, unless an exceptional talent emerges from somewhere.

Lads are taking longer to reach the top level, and among the very top clubs, nearly out of the picture altogether, and have been since JOS left Man U & Duff left Chelsea, neither of those events today or yesterday, and both bit part players at those clubs by the time they left.

Nothing to say the likes of Hendrick won't have a long career at top level either, but he is starting from a low base, same for Brady if he eventually moves or Norwich get back up. Difficult to see a Brady type getting a game at Man U these days when they can just spend 100 million on one of the best players in the world, unless that player is truly exceptional.

As I just said on the Chelsea thread, they have 37 players out on loan. The chances of making it at a top club are harder and harder, expect plenty more to fall by the wayside. For those that don't and who manage to revive their careers, don't expect them to be making an international debut until they are 25/26. I think most EPL clubs would scrap their academies and just buy mid-table teams in Holland and Belgium if they could. I am sure the idea has already been discussed somewhere.

Think it's been a pretty decent transfer window actually, O'Dowda, Hendrick, Egan, Duffy etc. getting upwardly mobile moves, and then the likes of Williams, Hoban, O'Kane, McGeady, Stokes and so on securing moves that will get them back playing regular football.

Doesn't look like he wanted to move, which seems to be a measure of him as a person. He seems happy at Norwich, has belief in himself and his team mates to get up and doesn't want to move just for the sake of it. If he is happy there I don't think it will do him any harm at all.

On a more global front, Kyle Callan-McFadden has been released by Orlando City and Billy Mehmet has joined Brunei DPMM from Tampines Rovers after an 18 goal debut season in the Singaporean League. A more interesting career move than slugging it out in the SPL you'd think...

The Singaporean league.. Where Roy O'Donovan managed to win MVP of the season a few year ago LOL

Didn't do Roy any harm, top scorer for his club and A-League Goal of the Season last year... Again, a hell of a lot more interesting than knocking around L2/LOI like he otherwise would have been.

Fair play to them..Experiencing new cultures, probably getting very well paid and probably far more appreciated as footballers

DUTCH giants PSV Eindhoven are the latest club to join the chase for Dundalk star Daryl Horgan.

Horgan is attracting plenty of interest worldwide thanks to stunning displays in the Lilywhites Europa League run.

PSV face tough competition from Premier League Hull City with Mickey Phelan also keen on his services. Bolton, Preston and Ipswich are also fans, along with Colorado Rapids and Philadelphia Union.

Horgan, 24, has had a dream season, winning a third league title with Dundalk and starring in their Euro run as he was named Player of the Year and earned a call-up to the Ireland squad.

Josh O'Hanlon joined Newport County a few weeks ago having been released by Bournemouth. Seems to have cemented a starting place for himself straight away.

Saw O'Hanlon playing for Longford Town in the season just ended.  Lots of better players in the League of Ireland. I think he is with Wycombe Wanderers.

Definitely with Newport, he started at the weekend but was subbed off in a 4-1 defeat at Blackpool.

Greed has won, big finance has won. Whatever small role elite clubs still play in the local communities from which they grew is dwarfed now by their position as global brands.

I'd almost forgotten he existed, but Ronan Murray has finally found himself a new club in the form of Galway United. He should do well there.

Left Cambridge by mutual consent, had been on loan at Rochdale, I believe he has dropped back into a decent centre-half there. Sean Long's loan deal was ended at Cambridge too.

Unusual to see a player actually making a step up after being released.

Not overly surprised about Long. I saw him play a couple of times for the U-21s, didn't strike me as much of a player. He was getting very little game time at Cambridge anyway.

Was unlucky with injury and a change of manager at Cambridge but it has worked out well for him, it suits all parties.
Long is atrocious, doesn't look a league 2 player.

He seemed to me to be extremely uncomfortable on the ball and not particularly fast or agile. Maybe he's very solid defensively or something, I can't think of any other reason Reading would have kept him on this long.

No, he is poor defensively too, I really don't know what he brings. He started the first few games of the season and since then has only really been used in the checkatrade trophy. I don't think he was thought any higher of at Luton which leads me to think he will struggle to get a league club on departure from Reading. Maybe he was good enough at conference level? Not sure how his spell at Braintree worked out.

Fair enough, perhaps he'll have to look at building his way up from the conference or a weaker LOI side so.
