Eileen Gleeson talking about getting a womens U23s team going. Would be a great next step, the gap from U19s to seniors is far too big:

“We’re trying to build the talent pool,” explains Gleeson, “develop the domestic game and cater for the players who play domestically and look at Under-23s.

“We’re trying to build capacity within clubs around the level of the game but also scout and exhaust the talent pool to have a bigger pool to select from.

“The key in development areas is between 16 and 23. We have to capture that area and have a pathway that allows them to get international games, exposed to that environment, and then we have them in with the senior team.

“We need a 23s and I think that will be something that will happen down the line and that will be the mechanism to capture the players that are not quite ready.

“I’ve said throughout my career as a club coach, outside of this role and head of women’s and girls’ football, there is a cliff drop at Under-19s.

“It’s tough for U-19s player, unless they are exceptional, to go straight into the senior team, so we need a mechanism to develop them and the 23s is a potential answer, helping us build their experience in a more intense environment.”

An U23s squad would be great, hopefully that occurs sooner rather than later

Fahey out injured. Erin McLoughlin called up.

WU19s beat Iceland 4-1 in their Euro Qualifiers. Austria & Croatia to come in the next week.

I'm sure Amber Barrett will have a few words with her LOL

I wonder does Patten go straight into the starting XI?
She's immediately one of our best defenders but doesn't know the group. Suppose it depends on how the week in training goes, if she gels then I'd say start her.

Realistically we're not finishing Top 2, we're looking at the Play-Offs. So it would make sense to get games into the players you want for those, that would include Patten.

Mannion too. She hasn't played much in the last year, but played the last couple of games for Man Utd at RB in a 4. Might not be enough to start, but surely will see minutes off the bench in both games.

Ooh from where? I wouldn't be at all surprised if she started but yes her not knowing the squad yet could be an issue

Niamh Fahey is injured and there may be a sense that this is an ageing defence that needs freshening up.

I have season tickets but bought some tickets for others via Ticketmaster. Does anyone know if they usually become available for electronic transfer? Just to save hassle on the day.

Interesting XI. Patten straight in. Mannion also starts. 4 CBs essentially

What formation is that? 4231?

               Carusa
 McCabe  Murphy  Payne
      Connolly O'Sullivan
Patten Quinn Hayes Mannion
              Brosnan

??

Maybe a 4-3-3 with McCabe at left mid? Looking at it it seems like a strong starting 11 on paper, Patton straight in at the deep end and Mannion back in after injury is bold but it could really work

Gavin Cooney saying it's 343 with Mannion at LWB.

                      Carusa
       McCabe                 Murphy
Mannion Connolly O'Sullivan Payne
            Patten Quinn Hayes
                     Brosnan

Payne has had some poor touches, Patton hasn't shown much.

The lack of technical ability possessed by Irish footballers across all levels and genders really is a joy to behold.

We are not capable of putting 3-4 passes together versus this calibre of opposition. So we should be playing ball's down the channels looking to win set pieces and throw ins..... especially now Campbell is on the pitch.
Vera knew how to play against this type of opponent
