Given the back door route available to us, maybe it's better in the long run to again have stronger opposition. If we end up qualifying some way or the other then it will stand to us.

In addition, we might have a chance of filling landsowne for the England game. Depending on the day its played I'd be nearly certain of it. That would be huge for the women.

Article on RTE says the Aviva would be available on a Tuesday night or Friday night. Don't know if that's for one match or all 3. Hope they put all 3 in the Aviva, if they don't now they never will.

Awful draw. It’s not inconceivable that Ireland will lose all six matches in this group?

Certainly possible, they are all better teams than us. But to be fair we did pretty well vs Sweden in 2021/22, an unlucky 0-1 loss at home (Louise Quinn OG, unlucky deflection) & then 1-1 away.

I think we're better now than we were then, there's been a lot of individual improvements in players since then, as well as the addition of some quality (Farrelly in particular could be important in this campaign).

We had players playing (including starting) then that don't even get in the squad now.
We were playing Payne as a lone striker. Carusa only started 1 game that campaign.

The starting XI's for those 2021/22 Sweden games:

                       Payne
  McCabe Connolly O'Sullivan Quinn
O'Gorman McCarthy Quinn Fahey Finn
                       Brosnan
Subs:
Kiernan, Barrett, Noonan

The away game was basically the same with Mustaki & Littlejohn in for O'Gorman & McCarthy.

So yeah, those Sweden games will be the ones to target to get something out of.

Seeding in women's football seems to be all over the place. The last World Cup was a perfect example of that, and now another tough group for this team.

Hopefully, they will rise to the occasion.

There was a lot of talk about "legacy" before the World Cup. However, it was all over before it really got going. Using the motivation from that disappointment could be a great driving force for this tournament.

A good showing in this group would be a great launching pad the women's game in this country. Certainly Lansdowne should be used for the home fixtures.

They were very lucky apparently that the England game was on the Tuesday....Leinster rugby have a home game on the Saturday (three days earlier) which would have left the Aviva out of bounds.

That England game is clearly going to be the biggest ever women's international match played in Ireland.

A shame the France game isn't on a weekend as might be an opportunity to move it down the country if so (PUC, Thomond etc) but I doubt they'd get a big enough crowd midweek to make it work so assume it will be Tallaght.
