Will be without a doubt, Kenny really rates him and has called up whenever hes been fit and available. Same with Brady, can see both coming back in next month. Though my fear there is he might revert back to a 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3 to accommodate those wide players instead of the more recent and successful 3-5-2.

McGuinness's ceiling might end up being League One IMO. Despite his grounding at Arsenal, he doesn't look technically good enough at this level and is prone to a mistake. Bagan has the tools to give it a right go, if he can iron out the kinks in his defensive game.

Standing ovation for O’Dowda as he is substituted in the last ten minutes. Should have had a penalty just before he went off. Deservedly gets MOTM.

No question about his ability, same as Brady... the big issue is, and will likely continue to be, injuries. The ability to play 5 games in a row is a rare.

He was very good today painful to admit being a Birmingham fan however big credit he caused problems all game. I think it's a penalty on him as well just before he's subbed a well deservered MOTM for him.

Cardiff's attempts to manage his game time carefully not going to plan, he was summoned off the bench after just nine minutes today.

Odowda looks bright at left back for Cardiff, one of their better players.
Parrott looks completely isolated up front, so much so Preston subbed a midfielder off for a forward after 35 mins. Brady and browne in the midfield for Preston look hopeless, outclassed from start to finish. Passing from both really poor. All in all, Cardiff will be really dissapointed not to be winning yet.

Outside bet for the LWB spot going forward? Obviously needs to prove his fitness/durability, but still only 27 and has always looked a tidy footballer.
Stevens and Mc Clean are nearing the end, Manning hasnt really kicked on, Brady has to prove he is over his injury issues and he is getting on also, Scales is playing as CB for Aberdeen (and doing well there tbf, while Bagan seems to have lost his spot to him at Cardiff. Has to be worth a look if he continues to play there.

I think he was just playing there because Bagan was out with a head knock and their first choice Collins is injured long term. Think they've signed another specialist left wing back in the last week or so as well. I'd expect O'Dowda to stay in the Cardiff team if he can stay fit because he's playing well, but probably not as a left wing back.

Ah ok, I thought he had now played a few games there. Bagan has only started one game and got concussed early on? In any case, a fully fit O'Dowda can probably force his way in to the squad even if not at LWB. Has to at least be an option for that role behind the 2 forward players, particularly if we are leaving Smallbone with the U21s for now.

Yeah the lad that replaced him at half time this weekend is the new LB they signed. Was no way they were gonna go with O'Dowda as the LB for the season given the start he's had at RW. |

Didn't O'Dowda play at LWB for Bristol City last year when he was fit and when they played a 3-5-2 or 3-4-3? So it would not be alien to him playing there for Ireland.
Between McClean and O'Dowda there is probably much of a muchness defensively as that would not be classed as their strengths. He could be an option there against Armenia?

Against Armenia at home can see Kenny sticking with 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1. O'Dowda would likely be competing for one of the forward positions than LWB. Similar as Brady I think. Feel Kenny would see him more as an attacker supporting the CF rather than a LWB.

You'd like to think he's learnt that lesson by now given how many disasters we've had under him playing three up front.

I'm just saying O'Dowd can be a option playing in the LWB as he has played there before for Bristol City and with our lack or options there. Stevens injured, Brady might not want to play international football anymore to prolong his playing career, Doherty can play there but he has only played 4 minutes of football so far this season. It is McCleans spot to lose really. But I think O'Dowda would offer more composure on the ball at LWB and another attacking outlet without taking a player from of central midfield. TBH I can't see Kenny just starting the 3-4-3 again in this up coming window, as we got very exposed with just two central midfielders in the first two matches of the last window.

Mcclean has been brutal at LWB for ireland, not mccleans fault, he'd play in goal if he had to... but he's not.a good.defender at all, his strength is further up the field, that's were his best performances for ireland have been. People easily confuse a tough tackle with defending. He's cost ireland a few goals defensively now under Kenny. Play him further up the field or not at all. Playing Doherty, odowda, manning or Brady at lwb would be much better. |
