If you do go to budapest, book the train tickets in advance. Seat 61 is the place to look, but I imagine mavstart.hu and oebb.at would be the places to get tickets. Certainly, you can get Vienna to Budapest tickets now on oebb.at. You might not be able to get Budapest to Vienna tickets yet, although they might go on sale 3 months (91 days) in advance so they should be on sale in the next day or two.

Yeah we can get the tickets now on oebb.at both ways, seems as if they are €19 each way and leave very regularly so we can get to Vienna early Saturday morning. Will probably wait a bit before booking train tickets but it seems reserving seats is also the way to go? only €3 and there's 4 of us travelling together so it would make sense for us.

What are train prices like from Vienna to Salzburg? Are they pricey or is it better to book in advance? Had a look on Trainline but prices didn't show

The Westbahn train goes every hour from 7.40am -7.40 pm and cost 24.90 Euro, you don't need to book, you just get on the train and pay when the bird comes around, train takes 2.5 hours, You can also travel with Oebb.at, i had a look,if you travel on Monday 14th, the ticket price is 19.99 Euro , train takes 2 hours 20 mins. From Salzburg train station ,the airport is 10 mins and 10 Euro in a taxi or 2.50 Euro and 20 minutes on a bus. |

Cheers. Just had a look there on Oebb.at, 19.99 is decent. Would much prefer that and those flights rather than going to Budapest say

Well, you can get 15 or 19 euro train tickets to Budapest which is 3 hours, or 19 euro train tickets to Salzburg which is 2h20m. Much of a muchness really.
Although you'd need to book the train tickets at the same time as the flights to make sure you have a proper comparison as the train tickets are also limited so might be a lot more expensive if you leave it til the end. |

Some of them are but there should still be some 19 euro ones.
If there aren't, the westbahn is only 25 euro no matter when you book it, but you need to book it on its own website. |

This website throws up a couple of Lufthansa routes departing Dublin Friday at 5.35pm and 5.55pm
Return on Sunday costs around 200 euro If you can catch a 3.30pm flight from Dublin (be there by 2.45pm?) then Ryan Air to Bratislava via Stansted is only 100 euro with return on Sunday http://www.airlinehunter.co.uk/search/#/Dublin%20(DUB)/Vienna,%20Austria/single_2016-11-11_2016-11-11/single_2016-11-13_2016-11-13 Edited by manulike - 16 Aug 2016 at 9:36pm |
