Here is the 27 man squad named to face ze Germans and The Polskis....7 Players born outside of Ireland not the 18 you pulled outta your hoop..have to love flegger logic!

You have a point about our reliance on the English football system but that is no different to u guys either. If we wanted to go further down the leagues like NI has and pick lads born on the island playing for MK Dons or Fleetwood we could. However, as most on here will agree, we have a very unique and special relationship with our diaspora and we are more than happy to pick players from that community. We proudly draw a sizable amount of support from this community as well.

If you are trying to make an argument that your squad is somehow more ethnically pure than ours because less of them are born abroad, well that's your perogative. I hope we will continue to draw on the sons and grandsons of irishmen as it's an important link to maintain IMO...London/ Liverpool/ Manchester/ Glasweegan Irishman have previously (see kimmage garrison circa 1916 as an example) answered the call, Long may that continue

fantastic post zizu Thumbs Up. i would add that it is irrelevant where an irishman is born should he choose to represent his country of nationality. Tell the likes of kevin kilbane that he's not irish...

regarding being "ethnically pure"! LOL "Ethnically" their squad is made up of a hord of holiday-seeking, alcoholic, trigger-happy, Scottish junkies who get a hard on dressing up as toy soldiers. Do me a favour.

Alternatively, take a look at Peter also from Belfast up the page for some real bitterness?

Calling people bitter because they expose the reality that a lot of people in the north of Ireland choose to go nowhere near windsor park. This is down to regular renditions of the bouncy or the Billy boys, and death threats being issued against anybody with a different political opinion. That is where the true bitterness lies and your attempt at deflecting that on to me is poor form but not surprising.

Lighten up. It's a lightly-moderated and largely anonymous web board, so inevitably there are plenty of snides. You can always challenge them. Alternatively, take a look at Peter also from Belfast up the page for some real bitterness?

Quote would you agree that for community relations it is good to see both teams recognised and both communities respected? Or is this Britain/Uk and the ROI should stay away as its not their country?

Amen to that brother. I have no problem at all with recognition of the obvious, ie that a large minority in NI identify with the South and its football team. All of this reflected in the media both in NI and England, where you are routinely referred as one of the home nations.

As for the RoI should stay away, That's just self-pitying mopery.

To the dum-dum who asked why a NI fan would post on a thread about the NI team, we last played you as recently as May 2015

See, this shows what I've always thought: strip away the single issue obsession and there's much we can agree on

Quote I’m not really sure what you’re trying to argue here FU

Only as you're letting a fertile imagination run riot. I reminded you above how I tend to post on here, pointing out that it's hypocritical to go on about non-existent countries and the like when you rely so much on England for players.

Rest assured I accept players from NI choosing your teams. It's a free country (or rather two) and we're doing OK without them.

Similarly, I don't mind what you call yourself. I'll continue to call you the Irish Republic or South for short. I know you don't really mind. It just avoids confusion, don't ye think? Even if your last Pres but two used to get her knickers in a twist about it as much as any 'flegger'.

PS to the Doc- your diagnosis is fair enough. There just isn't enough time to answer every comedy genius on the web, much as I'd like to ;)

PPS to Stoger- we'll just tell them we're not Brazil, merci.

In regards to the 40 man squads, they were provisional and I’d say we’re all in agreement that they are pretty much a waste of time by MON. I think it is quite understandable that I thought your comment referred to the actual squad, not the provisional one that was named for both of those games. It makes no difference anyway.

I’m not really sure what you’re trying to argue here FU. Genuinely. It seems you are trying to obtain some kind of moral high ground because we choose to pick players born in the north and from our diaspora. (Or rather more accurately the players themselves choose to represent us). Yet your team has also done this previously, is currently doing it and will continue to do so in the future. (And at least all of our players have had a family link; Maik Taylor was born in a German military base and qualified due to a technicality agreed between the home nations for example)

Or is it that you still can’t quite understand why northern citizens support the team that represents Ireland? And I use the term Ireland quite deliberately here. Regardless of what Fifa/ Uefa want to call us the official name of this state, as outlined in our constitution, is Ireland not ROI (I know some fleggers still find this hard to comprehend)

My comment about us relying on the English football system was more in terms of developing our players, not capping 1st/ 2ndg gen players. Majority of players from this island go to England at 15/16 and are made into professionals there. I don’t buy this often peddled OWC moan that we are stealing players that were developed in the North. With a few exceptions, the real development came when they crossed the Irish Sea. (That’s the unfortunate truth)

As for your comments referring to how the government treats the diaspora (which is a completely different thing to how that community is treated/ perceived by the Irish public at large), I again believe you have a point. I would strongly be in favour of extending proxy voting rights to citizens abroad. I’d go further than that and like to see Dail representation extended to the North. Northern citizens make a huge contribution to the Irish State and their voices should have a platform in the national assembly IMO.

Couldn't help but notice u speak about people being treated off handily. Some nerve considering the death threats issued to one of your own players. I live 5 mins from Windsor park and would rather sh*t in my hand and clap than go watch a n.ireland game and that is down to the sectarian nature of the fans. So where players are born isn't important when u have issues like that to deal with. A Fair chunk of your own squad openly support Ireland irrespective of there those players were born

I dont see any NI fan who disagrees with me as bitter but snide comments give that aura. I do have a question though, take out the fact that you believe this is an SDLP election move designed to wind up unionists- would you agree that for community relations it is good to see both teams recognised and both communities respected? Or is this Britain/Uk and the ROI should stay away as its not their country?
Walters coming back from an offside position but Shane Long was definitely onside- Shane Lonnggggggg.... has done it!!!!
