Fantastic - Great to see him remembered so fondly. Not just Ireland fans who have a love for Alan
You asked if I'd be anyone from history, fact or fiction, dead or alive:
I said "I'd be Tony Cascarino, circa 1995"

Read in the Indo that he was incredulously asked from time to time 'if he still supported Ireland'.Unhappy

Jesus wept!, two Culchie parents, sat next to Noel Gallagher in school, he was hardly Tony Cascarino FFS.

He had a dreadful time with that illness I won't even mention by name. RIP Alan.

No...not a fan of the retirement of numbers. Certainly not in international football

A lovely tribute. Very well said.

What is remarkable was the fact that he played such an important role in the squad, while only playing small amounts, on the pitch in the efforts to qualify for Euro '92, 96, and USA 94. I recall always seeing him involved in friendly matches (Tilburg sticks out in my mind, as does Wales at Tolka Park). After MM took over he got a proper run, and was probably unlucky not to reach 50 caps.
