Couldn't agree more, high level technical ability to chest that ball, have a look over his shoulder and knock the ball to idah for a chance.

For ireland he's done some really good stuff and I can't fault him.

Makes me wonder why he isn't fancied for his club teams? There's always been question marks as a 90min player. He struggled to get into the wycombe team for the last few months.

Is it his attitude towards fitness? His focus for club games?

There's a good bit of talent and skill there but the consistency at club level is a concern.

Hate his club form but he's been good for ireland.... very frustrating as you want to choose the inform players.

Really like how direct he has been, similar to Ogbene it creates a bit of a buzz as we don’t enter have players willing to take on and beat a man. He’s been more effective off the bench though than when he’s started games.

I like him as a super sub. Would still have Robinson, Connolly and Parrott ahead of him at least and probably mcclean too at this moment

The bit i liked yesterday was James took the throw in you expected him to lay it back to him but he turned the defender on the inside and put the cross in for the goal , outstanding Clap

I'm not a massive fan of Horgan and as said he was dropped from a wycombe side for the last 5 weeks of the season but was ever present for them in the prior games.

I dont think he's championship standard primarily.due to him not being a consistent performer and struggles with fitness over 90 mins.

When he came on for ireland yesterday I thought it was a poor substitution.

However - he's been one of the better performers for ireland when he comes on and yesterday he was really good. He puts more quality on the ball than mcclean ever does.

That's the difficulty in choosing him, we have a player playing for a poor championship team (now league 1) and struggling to nail down his position of late.

On the other hand, every time he's come on for ireland he's been one of the only players making an impact with clever runs, good quality on the ball and now he's popping up with a deserved goal and assist.

He's a selection headache in that respect.

Confused

Last season Daryl Horgan started 28 games for Wycombe and was an ever-present until the final 5 weeks of the season.

To put that into perspective, Callum O'Dowda has never started more than 20 games in an entire season in his career to date. Yet he has started way more games for us.

Last season, James McClean started a grand total of 17 games for Stoke, and we are still relying on him.

I'd love to know where all these players are who should be taking Horgan's place in the team/squad.

I was moaning in the other thread when he was being brought on, but I have to hold my hands up and say he done well. Great cross for Kinghts goal and an excellent header for his own. Can't really ask more than that

The bad news is, he simply.cant get into a wycombe team that has had a terrible season in the championship and relegated to league 1.

At his age he should be in his prime but If ireland ever get into the position of choosing players on form he simply wouldn't make it.

Silly some posts today and this may be a contender for the worst one!

They were expected to beat Rotherham for the lowest pts total ever and ended up taking it to the final day, if that aint overachieving I don't know what is!

Yes, there was a late resurgence by wycombe towards the end of the season, where horgan barely featured for the last 10 odd games.

So wycombe were better when Horgan wasn't in the team.

So I'm not really sure why my post is considered silly?

He played in 40 of their matches.

Intentionally misleading to throw 40 matches out there when you are probably fully aware he was a late sub in a lot of the games.

As I said, he barely played in the last 10 games

I think that he can be an effective sub for us no matter who we play. His crossing can be ok at times and he's willing to take someone on.

His effectiveness wears off after a while, which we saw in his last few appearances when he started, which is why he's best suited to a sub role.

People have been saying this about Horgan all season, but he was a regular up until after the Serbia and Luxembourg games, after which he lost his place in the team.

You could instead make the point, and you'd be right, that Wycombe's form greatly improved from late-March onwards and they made a good stab at surviving relegation.

Lee, Cunningham, Connolly and Manning are other Galwegians who've played for Ireland, but none of them have scored.

Can't think of anyone else off-hand.
He might be, I'm not sure of anyone else. Alan Lee, and David Forde are both from Galway
