Anyone that falsely equivocates Biden with Trump just like Hilary was with Trump in 2016 is either totally ignorant of the threat Trump is to democracy with his authoritarian inclinations or is letting their infantile contrarian mask slip.
The fact that Trump is 40 points up on the rest of the Republican primary field tells you everything you needed to know about his cultist followers. At least Chris Christie is actually discussing issues (even if you don't agree) instead of engaging in the culture war nonsense. They could vote for him and have their right wing agenda rammed through without having to tear down the rule of law and their system of government.

We are talking about a country who thinks nationalised health care and abortion is woke and communism. What is even the point engaging in the politics of these nutjobs. USA is amazing in many respects, but politically it is too far gone

You say the left. Who are they referencing. There is so little left wing politics in the states. The Democrats are a right wing party in any other country. So who is going to far.
By the way I lived in the states and have spoke to Trump supporters, republican supporters and democratic supporters and democratic socialists. The Reagan democrats have returned to the republicans esp in the Rustbelt. Most are white and have north western European heritage and probably see democrats as too woke. I suspect your friends are similar.

I genuinely don’t know who I’d vote for myself as I think they’re both rubbish. I’d have serious concerns about both their heads to be honest! Biden would probably be seen as the “safer” option. But again, it’s comes back to the point that it’s a sad state of American politics when it was a choice between those two

Even taking this ‘sleepy Joe’ trope at face value, it still makes him infinitely more preferable to a loose canon, who is ‘off his head.’ There is no Hobson’s choice here.

No, not at all, had a good chat with them about it recently, not going into depth about it now, but not like that at all.
But in a nutshell, they view the left as going way too far to the otherside now compared onba number of issues to where it was a number of years ago. Based on what points, that's up to them, but very interesting listening to them about how they see america/ society changing. Easy for us to have an opinion on Americans views watching cnn and fox though, isn't it? Re Biden v trump, I thibk they're both rubbish. Trump is someone who is off his head and is a loose canon - Biden is far too old, can barely stay awake at key moment and as said above health is questionable. To have the 2 of them as the option to lead a country the size of America is mental

So they are blaming their shift to the right because a party that would be right wing in any other country as being too left wing 😀😀😀. So tell us on what metric was Trump better than Biden? Sounds like your friends have just done the classic thing of becoming right wing as they get older as they more money and less stake in society and less time left and want to hang on to it. It’s the classic thing of becoming more selfish as they get older. |

So are you able to tell us what a covid denier is so? You're not able to bring much to the table here so far.... Going back on topic re American politics, its a sad state of affairs when the last presidential election was a choice between sleepy Joe and trump. I know an American couple who are about 50, ex army, who both work in a hospital now (and both nearly lost their jobs for refusing to get vaccinated - their point was that they saw every day first hand in the hospital what was happening, saw people been given an official cause of death as "covid" when reality was different, etc). Anyway, they were both very vocal democrats all their lives up until a few years ago. Last election, they begrudgingly voted for trump and first time ever voting non democrat (despite thinking he's a bit of a head banger , but still better than joe), and find themselves veering more to right by way of default as the left go too far on things. We give out about our own politicans but genuinely believe we've a better calibre of people than Boris or trump (which is worrying when you consider the population of both countries) |

Seen as trump never denied the presence of Covid, I can only presume that it’s a lazy term to throw at those that recognised that Covid was a “thing”, in the exact same way as a cold/flu is a “thing”, but didn’t buy into the whole maud Flanders’s/ restriction/ masks ott reaction to it

It doesn’t impact them in the same way as it will disproportionately impact the disadvantaged in the USA, or the marginalised. Worst of all, they have gaslight some of the most impoverished people in the US to believe that Trump and his pals are ‘on their side.’ But that won’t impact Irish people shilling for Trump. Just like we have a bunch of people in Ireland forgetting their own history and siding with Russia (or at least Russian narrative) in Russia’s efforts to subjugate and wipe Ukraine off the map.

Plenty of EIRE folk want the Donald re-elected. It's f**king mental that people in america would still back him to the hilt no matter if he is found guilty of multiple crimes. IT just goes to show that people will follow anyone who speaks with a loud voice and conviction even if what they are talking is complete bolloxology. Hitler, Putler, Trump...

Based on the two party system in the US and given the very limited number of candidates running this time, Joe Biden. I want Trump to be defeated in the primaries. But that is unlikely to happen. So in a Trump v Biden election, Biden every day of the week.

As for Biden in Hawaii, I cant comment but what I would say, if I was in the middle of a disaster such as that, Id much prefer not to see any politician walking round getting photographed in the immediate aftermath as the search continues to find people.
