Good plaudits indeed but as Is most likely, hourihane (the wheres wally of football) will be ahead of him in the holding role...

There is no way Hourihane should be anywhere near our back four. If he plays it has to be behind the front man. Cullen should be competing with arter and mccarthy for the midfield place in front if the back four and should be ahead of both of them due to injuries etc.

Yeah, Hourihane is a liability anywhere except behind the front man. And at that, he doesn't fit the mould of what Kenny wants in the hole i.e. high energy Also, as Kenny doesn't have the number 10 he needs for that role, he more than likely will play 4-3-3 with a sitter (Cullen?). Hourihane ends up in midfield two with an energy ball like Knight or Molumby. Hourihane playing deep is bats. Hourihane's only real strength is scoring from range. He needs to be receiving ball in the final third. If Kenny can't make that happen, axe him. As he's a passenger otherwise.

Huge credit goes to Cullen tonight for making sure he doesn’t get injured before joining up with the squad. Picks up two yellow cards to ensure he’s available for Wednesday within 10minutes after coming on.

Just incredible that we are almost at the stage “ahh well at least he’s not injured”. It’s almost a surprise he’s not injured that’s where it is at the moment.
Doherty I presumed he was dropped but lads have it in my head now is he injured too 😂

Or even funnier him having played terrible in a game he didn’t play in accordingly to another poster which merited him being dropped.

Cullen makes sure he's well rested for this game by getting himself sent off after ten mins in his last club game.
Its that kind of commitment and forward thinking we need more of in the ireland team. Massive night for the lad.

He was irelands MOTM for sure. Really impressed with him. Tadic was the best player on the field tonight but for ireland I'd agree Cullen

Cullen is our best midfielder. We need to accept now that Hendrick, Hourihane Brady etc have very little to offer at a high level now and don't have the legs CUllen, Molumby or Knight have

Agreed but he's 25 next week, he's not a young lad anymore! He either is or isn't a player at this stage, looks like the formerthankfully, good to see lads trying a different path

Never said he was “a young lad”. Keith fahey wasn’t 21 breaking into Ireland team but played very well for Ireland when he got his chance - he was very under rated too tbh. Some players come from nowhere at a later age (though fahey should’ve got chance earlier from his performances in league of Ireland - haven’t seen Cullen in Holland so can’t comment on him). From what I’ve seen tonight, I’d base our midfield around Cullen over the next few matches

I could hear him on the TV saying gimme it gimme it in tight positions. Our midfielders used run towards the opposition so they couldn’t get it.
