Father Ted was supposed to end with Ted killing himself. After Dermot Morgan died the day after filming wrapped on the third season, it was changed to a montage.

Crazy story. 

Suicide is one thing, trying to take others with you is another.

I actually know a man who almost committed suicide by swerving straight into an oncoming truck, but then he stopped himself at the last moment when he thought that the driver might have a family/children of their own.
