Such a horrible disease is Alzheimers/Dementia. So tough on families to see the person they love change so much. You lose them twice, once when they have it and once when they pass on.

Great few bob raised last night during the show, think it was over 500k for dementia irl. Fair play

I thought they overplayed the ''Ireland at war'' thing a bit too much.  I think at one point Bertie or LArry Mullen said the whole island was at war.  Bar the 1973 Dublin bombings there was peace south of the border.  Some of the footage made it appear to an English person for example, that bombs were going off left, right and centre in the Republic.

1974 Dublin and Monaghan bombings. There were also numerous less reported bombings this side of the border both in Dublin and border counties. There was documentary a while back on some of them.

Well they didn’t mention the Loughinisland shootings after the Italy game, and the bit on the match at Windsor was short enough, so I suppose there could have been more on the troubles.

I just thought that part about the flag was a bit pointless
I’m sure Ireland fans were bringing the flag to matches before 1986

Sorry 1974.

Anyone know where the footage was taken of Jack teaching football to the Irish kids?

He seemed to have time for everybody, and there was a genuineness about him and his character that just meshed perfectly with us. You got the impression that he didn't feel superior  in anyway to the man on the street.

Just a wonderful gentleman.

For anybody not able to watch on rteplayer or Bbcplayer, the full documentary is up on YouTube. Don’t want to post the link in case it gets pulled but if you search on YouTube you’ll find it.

I lasted up until Paul McGrath and then the waterworks started
You asked if I'd be anyone from history, fact or fiction, dead or alive:
I said "I'd be Tony Cascarino, circa 1995"

And Bertie. No need for that **** to be anywhere near anything, except a prison or a speech therapist.

Mullen has some relevancy. He was heavily involved in Put Em Under Pressure and produced it. He is a fan of the team. But why is he a wankstain?

But Bertie is one slithering f**k.

Talking about reclaiming our tricolor from the provos while paying his taxes abroad is a pretty good reason

Is it not strange that jack and bobby were more like acquaintances than brothers tho? They had so much in common with football and bloody winning the world cup together. You would think they would be inseparable yet they were the opposite. I know families have they strange ways but its a little odd no?

I know many brothers that arent close at all. Know twins that are much closer to their individual mates than their brother.

Pretty sure there was something to do with Bobby's missus having an influence on him (think he stopped seeing his Mam, open to correction on that) but he does come across as a cold person.

Yeah he talked about in his autobiography. He even went as far as saying he was somewhat shocked to see Bobby at the mothers funeral. Also, said that he felt he was always a burden to Bobby when they were kids as he felt Bobby had to look after him a lot.

Think it was the other way round, Jack had to mind Bobby a lot, he was the elder brother. He wanted to be out in the wilds and Bobby had no interest in the outdoor stuff he was into.

Read Bobby’s book.  His view on it was that their mother was a strong north of England woman who had strong views and it was her way or the high way a bit like Jack.  Bobby took after the dad and was quieter.   Their mother didn’t take to Bobby’s wife and thought she was Stuck up as she was a model I believe and totally different background to her.  Anyway over time relations between Bobby’s wife and Their mother got worse and Bobby didn’t keep ih touch as much and Jack got pissed off with this as he was very close to his mother and they were very similar.  This led to them falling out.  Bobby’s side of the story was that he was left in no other position because of his mother’s behaviour to his wife and Jack couldn’t see it that way.
AKA pedantic kunt
