I take it you didn't enjoy watching ROI under Big Jack, then?

Not if you're a fan!

Granted, non-fans must find us extremely hard going, but when I look at the players we have, I never expect Tiki Taki.

Instead, all I ask is that the boys play with spirit, heart, effort and commitment, which they do, in spades.

Which in turn is why we are all so proud of them (these days, at least )

Thereafter, the results take care of themselves.

If only Dunphy and some Ireland fans took that viewpoint.

The 2 Irelands must be the 2 worst teams to watch in world football. Utter garbage. God help the world if the 2 ever join up.

I had hoped my point was clear, but to elaborate, objectively viewed, NI must be boring and unattractive to watch.

But as a fan, therefore subjective, I love watching them i.e. for emotional rather than aesthetic reasons.

I brought up Big Jack and his 'Give It A Lash' tactics as a comparison which I hoped you might have appreciated.

But if you refused to watch/support that team due to their being boringly one-dimensional etc, then fair enough, I withdraw the comparison.

Speak for yourself.

I love watching my team, whether in good times or bad.

At the risk of repeating myself from previous posts, I don't want to watch a United Ireland team any more than I want a United Kingdom team, a United Europe Team or a United Nations Team.

Meanwhile, if your team's "garbage" ever gets too much for you, remember, no-one is forcing you to watch them.

I'm beginning to think that this Territorial chap is planning's alter ego. Still can't understand why a couple of Nordies come onto another nations forum every time they play a match. Very strange.

Well if NI went on all out attack, they wouldn't have the players to match or outplay the big European sides. Qualification is all about results, not entertaining people,

As for the Republic, they showed against Sweden, Italy and France they could play football when they wanted to.

SPL next for MON óg you reckon Terry??? Unless it's one of the old firm it would be a step down. I think he could get a good championship job. I think he'd be brilliant at a sleeping giant like Villa/Forrest (not leeds because their owner sacks managers more often then I change jocks!)

Ah you're just making stuff up now. Who says I didn't follow Ireland under Trap or Charlton?

I was making a point on the rest of the world forum that a football team that I do not support are very boring to watch. No different to me saying Sunderland, Santos, Villarreal or Ivory Coast are boring to watch.
Im not telling you not to watch or support them.
Just making a very viable point. As someone who has no emotional attachment, or very little interest at all in the NI team, there is very little entertainment value in watching their games.

Nobody disputes NI are defensive, we have been as long I've been watching (early 70s). Terri is just pointing out that,

 a) to be so vexed by that tedium you must watch it pretty often, despite everything

b) particularly if you also watched the South during Jack's time. When they were very predictable

c) so isn't your interest in the NI maybe just a little more obsessive than you admit- if not quite as much so as Terri's or my interest in this forum ;)

Very clever, you're quoting something that I didn't say. Your obsession with Ireland is truly remarkable. Well played sir.

And also quoting something I didn't say.

I have never once suggested that NI fans shouldn't be enjoying their recent form.

As a non-fan/neutral, they are boring to watch, just like Jack and Trap's teams undoubtedly were to people who didn't follow Ireland then (and many who did, especially under Trap)

You're getting very uptight over something that's blatantly obvious. Do u expect non-NI fans to say you're entertaining to watch?

Calling me obsessive, yet he's an NI fan who's gone to the trouble of joining this forum

Lads, we're all "obsessive". Difference is that Terri and I admit it, Baggio and Frankos don't. You may not have joined NI forums (although other RoI fans do), but you do keep making the same point on here ad nauseam...

Baggio- I won't go as far as poster Brendan a page or two back and accuse anyone of dishonesty, but the succession of RoI supporters who keep watching NI despite the predictable boredom ensuing must be more than coincidence. At least some must be hoping Germany or whoever will hit us for six. Completely one-sided but maybe not as boring as a tight game where the result's in doubt until the last minute?

Variously,

a) age- he's 29 at Xmas. Probably stayed two years too long at ManU

b) nationality- Arsenal and ManC tend to prefer exotic continentals etc.

c) er, hobbies- he (or his wife) may not want to be tempted by the bright lights of London's casinos

d) he's still learning how to speak Black Country, aye it

I don't think I've ever posted anything about Northern Ireland on this forum. I've certainly no interest in joining a Northern Ireland football fans forum. I've little or no interest in the Northern Ireland football team either.
