They're a bunch of shysters and crooks, like they've always been, and don't like their racket being exposed.

I’d like to understand how they have come to the bizarre conclusion that these actions will ultimately raise the standard and result in long term improvements. It’s an absolute nonsense and harks back to the dying days of the last Conservative hegemony in the mid 1990s.

They’ll probably gain gain a few points in the polls.
I think Boris could give the queen COVID and kill her & they’d stretch the gap on labour

Forced into a u-turn the next day ! About an hour after the Business Secretary had gone on the media defending it and calling for Kathryn Stone's resignation. Paterson will now be hung out to dry and backbenchers pressured by the three line whip yesterday will be furious at looking like craven idiots. This will do them serious damage with their own constituents. So-excellent outcome all round !

Paterson resigns as an MP They hadn't even got the decency to tell him they were changing their mind. He only found out after Kunnessberg rang him while he was in the Supermarket

Eamonn Dunphy:"I'll tell you who wrote it, Rod Liddle, he's the guy who ran away and left his wife for a young one".
Bill O'Herlihy: Ah ye can't be saying that now Eamonn |

There is something amusing about the accountability only happening now that the Tories have been left with egg on their face. An poorly judged political gamble blowing back in their face. This shouldn’t be forgotten.

This scandal will be forgotten by the voters next month. The simple fact is Labour can only form a majority government with a) winning back a large block of Scottish Labour MPs (along with winning back a large chunk of the red wall) or b) a coalition government with the SNP. Neither scenario is likely any time soon. Tory hegemony will continue for at least another decade.
It's clear to me the UK is quickly turning into a single party state and if you think I'm being melodramatic remember the Tories have been in power 33 out of the past 51 years. |

Two weeks ago it was difficult to find a single Labour MP who genuinely thought their party was in with a chance of winning the next election. The mood was one of quiet resignation at the prospect of a fifth consecutive defeat. The media had also largely written off Keir Starmer. A fortnight of Tory sleaze stories later, with Boris Johnson having been at the centre of many of them, it all looks very different. “Everything we said, prior to the Owen Paterson fiasco, appeared to be dying in a giant void,” says the shadow cabinet member Charlie Falconer. “Now the goal for Labour is standing open and unguarded. Suddenly it seems like everybody in the media is after stories about how terrible this government is.” A golden rule of spin doctors, often attributed to Alastair Campbell (though he denies being the originator), is that if one particularly bad story is still plastered over the front pages nine days after it first broke, then the person at the centre of the storm will be in terminal trouble. Saturday was the 10th day since the Paterson fiasco, in which Johnson tried to save his friend’s career, Edited by Double Maxim - 14 Nov 2021 at 11:50pm |
