The only good thing about Brexit is Tim Martin slashing the prices of every non-British drink in his Spoons' pubs, Jamesons included, would be rude to say no to that.

Personally I think the immigration issue is being overblown as the main reason for the Brexit vote. Certainly that is the case in the South East of England and London in particular.

I was surprised to discover the vast majority of my colleagues (very well paid and in safe civil servant jobs) voted to leave. It might be the case that the remainers in the office are staying shtum and the balance isn't so one sided.

In the 10 months or so since Brexit, I have discovered, through discussions with the leavers, their primary reason for voting to leave was down to the Bloc's interference with domestic British affairs e.g. European Court of Justice rulings trumping the courts in the UK.

It seems the British (I'm referring solely to the English) are a bit peeved that their position in the world is not what it once was. They seem to crave for the 'glory days' and were not one bit happy with their sovereignty being eroded slowly over time. They see the decline of the country all around them and have lashed out.

The Brexit vote is the result. A result due to decades of empire brainwashing on the general public.

Who knows what lies ahead...

Well, I can think of something that somewhat backs the opinions of your colleagues up to an extent, if they are in well paid civil service jobs, they will be somewhat immune from any of the more severe consequences, such as large industries or financial institutions possibly upping sticks & leaving, so maybe that threat (which they would have been aware of) doesn't apply to them.

They will probably want to vote themselves back in again when they realise their pound sterling doesn't get them quite as far in Spain, but that's for another day. I dunno about this ''interference with British/English affairs'' though, I'm sure there are examples of it, but I highly doubt it would stand up to even the most casual of scrutiny.

I get the point about the country declining (if in fact it is declining, but there are plenty people like Farage etc telling them it is anyway) , but really this is an extension of xenophobia, even though I presume your colleagues wouldn't be down protesting outside the local mosque. . From your description, it sounds like they are typical of the English lads ya meet abroad, talk to one, 2 or 3 of them, and they are generally sound, rational people, not a lot unlike ourselves.

When numbers 4 & 5 join them, next thing ya know, they are up on a table in the main square singing about 10 German Bombers & fcuk the IRA, one and a half pints and 9 minutes later. A good few seem to have that very odd, herd mentality like that. I obviously don't know any of your colleagues, but I'd be willing to bet that if they were full of beer, their reasons for leaving would be a lot less diplomatic than EU interference in the courts process.

A few posts from Coleman & meself nearly 3 years ago. Take a look at this;

Not really a complex issue at all, is it ??

How ironic that their Brexit and the situation the 6 counties finds itself in afters Bojos withdrawal agreement, has probably moved the prospect of United Ireland closer, the ultimate aim of the IRA. Then again these lads probably know very little about the North and couldn't give a f**k about it. Their views of the IRA are mainly because of the bombing campaign carried out in England id imagine.

I think there are lots of people in Britain who voted for it because of the fact they had to abide by some EU laws, even though they didn't know much about it. I guess it is sort of the imperial mindset they may have because of their countries history and upbringing. I don't think lots of them would be any more racist than your average Irishman. There are lots of unsavoury aspects in some pubs in Ireland every week that would be considered anti British. Idiots are idiots no matter what they identify as and every country has them in abundance. Our electorate are going to return FF to government after a decade of blueshirt rule

Some bloke voted for Brexit because he lost his job in the 90's.

Another English lad said that the EU stripped him of his identity, and that since Britain left the EU, they are now great again.

Imagine if ya could somehow mobilise idiots to actually do something that might benefit people in general ??  Ya wouldsn't want to spend too much time thinking about how to go about that though, probably be better off concentrating on more realistic things, like time travel and growing money trees.

it's easy to present a short clip of a tiny subsection of really quite a large group of people as a definitive representation of that larger group of people. The oldest and easiest trick in the playbook in fact. It doesn't mean we should stoop to this. It's a very cheap shot. To do so is to indulge in the everything many on here claim to deplore and be above doing.

Bercow's a racist and a bully. Collymore's a violent, misogynistic sh*tbag. We should aspire to better than quoting and deferring to these ****s, really.

They most likely didn't. And such an eloquent refutation of the merits, or otherwise, of universal suffrage. I guess there's no arguing there.
