He is boxed in. An Irish Sea border is the
only way out ergo NI will remain in the CU and SM. I’d be fairly confident the
above will happen. I foresee the EU and UK blowing off the cobwebs on the December 2017
deal and fudge some wording to go along with it. It will then undoubtedly pass
the House of Commons as the parliament faces up to a sh*t or bust scenario. An
election will then be triggered enabling Boris to run on a ticket claiming he
delivered Brexit. The DUP will have served their purpose and will either be
thrown under the bus or will find some way to say the fudge deals with their
concerns – either way it matters little to the Tories. Farage’s party will be irrelevant
by then allowing Boris to “re-claim” those seats he would have lost had he
agreed to an extension. The SNP will be rubbing their hands and will cry blue
murder. It again matters little to the Tories as they are likely to be wiped
out in Scotland according to the polls and a special deal for NI will only make
them even more unpopular in Scotland. SNP independence demands is a battle for
another day. Whether Boris wins the
election or even enough to form a stable coalition is another matter entirely. Edited by colemanY2K - 09 Sep 2019 at 3:21pm |

John Bercow standing down. Huge loss.
Clearly despises the modern era of Tories evidenced by no one from the Tory bench applauded him. Probably the best speaker of all time and one will who by remembered by his constant interventions to avoid a no deal and his showbiz rise in popularity for his ORDARR shouts

I still feel one of the very few people who had a proper grasp on Brexit, and lost plenty of internal support over it. He performed a service during a time nobody else would.

His biggest mistake was revealing that he voted Remain during a talk-in. A bit on the unprofessional side as a Speaker as then it set himself up for being biased ever since. He’ll be as welcome as a wet fart back into the party so I’m not sure where he goes from here

Like many ex-politicians, I suspect he would have no difficulty getting something in the private sector.

I make it a rule never to feel sorry for politicians of any persuasion but berkow has shown himself to be an honorable man, constantly poking a stick in the looneys wheel, always worth a few laughs watching him slap them down.

Nigel Dodds just told Newsnight an NI-only backstop is acceptable with Stormont input. So there you go. Now the qualifications. He referred not to the whole backstop but to "arrangements", requiring the consent of "unionists and nationalists" in the assembly.
Petitions of concern on the bend in your banana? Looks as if the DUP are beginning to budge.

What it sounds like is the DUP are fine with the backstop but if there's an EU law they don't like at any stage, they can veto it in Stormont and bring in a hard border themselves. I doubt the EU will agree to that and it would be bananas for the UK to allow it.

Think Nigel sees which way the wind is blowing and will spin it that the dup never had any issues with a ni backstop Heard an erg guy in radio 4 saying the only issue he had with an ni backstop was that the ni people needed to ok it - so much for the union Ni backstop will be the decision with some function for stormont ( if when it is up and funny g ) but it will be advisory only - no way will the Eu allow 800000 unionists to determine the strength of an Eu border

LDs apparently to announce their policy as full revocation of Article 50. This will play very well to their base.

I actually think Labour have played a blinder during this period. I can’t help but feel if this was a few year’s back Corbyn would have walked into the trap, taken the election, and as a result gave rise to an almost certain no-deal Brexit. Labour are taking the prospect of no-deal seriously and they are avoiding it at this juncture. The next step will need to be what do they want after this period.

Very different positions to be in. Being against Brexit has completely rejuvenated the Liberals as they have little to no other point or policy and have become the flag bearers for the remain movement. To do anything else would have been folly.
