If Ireland qualify I fully expect 20,000 plus Irish people there.

Not a f**king hope. Would struggle to get even half that

USA and a few others could too but at the end of the day it's going to Qatar.
Every World Cup has been bought but the current price just makes it difficult to hide.

If Ireland qualify I fully expect 20,000 plus Irish people there.

Can't see anywhere near that tbh , have little interest myself in going to a glorified theme park - all my hopes for a World Cup are on Russia
I can't see 20,000 also , maybe 4,000 all of whom will be housed in 5 star hotels at the cost of €350 a night Confused
Lansdowne Road debut aged 52 and 201 days .

You nearly just have to stand back and applaud the sheer audacity of it. It is the most blatant and obvious case of bribing the bejaysus out of someone/something in order to get something in return. Obviously FIFA is top heavy with absolute crooks, but it's not like they didn't know there would be a massive fall out from awarding a World Cup to Qatar. They knew full well - they just didn't give a flying f*ck.

Not just winning but winning by the landslide they did (almost double the votes of 2nd place) kind of gives it away really.

If we don't qualify for Russia it will be 20 years since we have been in a World Cup.... demand will be huge.
People said Japan would cost a lot but we went as students and did it on the (relative) cheap.

Doubt it.

It seems they presently only have 6 football-suitable stadia with a 40k+ capacity, with two of those in Sydney and two in Melbourne:

Three brand new stadia and five major upgrades - no way that could all be completed with "a year or two's notice" (as per 'Denis Irwin', above).

My guess is that it would take three years (minimum), more likely four, so any decision to switch would need to be very soon were Oz to be in the running. (Remember too that a finals in Australia would see the dates brought forward another six months to June/July 2022)

And my guess is that it will take a whole lot more dirt to emerge, or a revolution in Qatar or something, for there to be any hope of a switch.

And even that probably won't be enough.

New Stadium is being built in Perth and Adelaide Oval has recently been upgraded massively. Could be done at a year or two's notice with NZ.

MCG and Docklands (Melbourne)
Brisbane
Sydney
Perth
Adelaide
Wellington
Auckland
Dunedin

Would give them 9 stadia at least. Dispensation to allow Sydney 2 stadiums would bring it up to 10

A world cup in Australia would be insufferable bandwagon wise even compared to France. Every extreme gah and rugby head that seems to move over there who don't see football as a "proper game" would be hard to take not to mention the long expensive flight, expensive pints and a cxxtish accent that's even worse on women.

Would nearly take Qatar over Oz.
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

And we thought the 2002 world cup was bad with 7.30am ko's back home? It would be even earlier with an Oz/NZ tournament, especially the games in NZ. Dead

In saying that, how close are the Qatar stadiums to being built? Apparently they've almost halved their budget, and FIFA still have to finalise the number of stadiums there will be. They're expecting 8 to be done by 2020, 3 of which don't even have their designs revealed yet..

I'm certainly not holding my breath on any chance of the tournament being taken off Qatar, no matter how much more scandal emerges about it (whether from Bild in the next few days/weeks or elsewhere) or how many other problems emerge. This is FIFA we're dealing with after all. Unhappy
