Undeniably correct.

Yet like Paul McGrath, Keane always gave a 9/10 or 10l10 in the crunch games.

During his recent walk in the woods with Neville  (a good watch) he listed his games against Holland , Portugal and Italy as his best ever performances.  And that included utd games.

His performances against Portugal at home was the best display by an Irish player I have seen.

Keane is honest to a tee. Look at the careers of any player he criticised.  They never did much afterwards.

Whinge fest here about Villa players' lack of professionalism during his disastrous spell there. They were unprofessional - but he forgets to mention he was brought in to fix it. Failed and walked. The Comments section doesn't hold back.

Also has a pop at Irish players (presumeably Arter and Walters).

Interesting also that during his moronic 50 Questions with Neville - he calls Ipswich a big regret (so do Ipswich fans). No mention of walking out on Ireland or Injurygate.

He has a hide to talk about professionalism, but the morons lap it up. Such is life.

Ipswich did nothing after he left either.

And what did Villa do after he left?

Arter has underachievied badly. What has he done since?

What top player or top pro for that matter has he ever slated?

If someone is slated by Keane they generally deserve it.

I find his take on such matters refreshing .

Walters was crippled by injury after the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign. Sure he barely featured in the tournament after being one of the mains reasons we got there after his goals/qualifying. Whatever about Arter being flaky, Walters clearly need injury management at that stage in his career.

It just gave Keane an opportunity to have a go at him, given their previous disputes, but feigning injury was a hypocritical way to go about it. Keane feigned injury to avoid the Iran away leg but played the full 90 for United 2 days after the play-off game.

I have an inkling that Arter won't be called up for the upcoming squad. He got his "send-off" appearance vs Qatar, maybe a reward for his commitment over the past year or so under Kenny.

Hard to see him playing for us again when these two matches and all matches in 2022 are with a view to the Euro Qualifiers. Even if Cullen was to get injured before the Portugal or Lux games, I don't think he'd start.

Hard to continue to justify his inclusion over Kilkenny who is playing in a deep-lying midfield position at Bournemouth.

The manager seems to like having him around even though very reluctant to ever play him that's including when we were short. If Knight, Kilkenny and Ronan continue as they are for the season I cant see him involved come June, but 4 games / injuries he might be still around.

Arter looks to be injured at the moment, he's missed the last 2 games for Charlton.

But he wouldn't be competing with Knight or Ronan anyway, those lads are AMs. Arter would be competing with Cullen, McCarthy, Hourihane & presumably Kilkenny.

Arter won't be called up while others are fit. Arter has made three squads under Kenny if you don't include the training camp. There's 12 months between his first and second competitive call up under Kenny. When others are unavailable he gets called into a squad. Browne and Knight in September and Molumby, and Browne this month.

Hopefully Hourihane goes that way himself soon. He's getting under 20 minutes a game for Sheffield United except for the two he started and was whipped off after 38mins in one of those.

To be fair, that's probably more down to injury (Oct & Nov 2020) and being frozen out at Forest & not playing at all in the first half of this year.

Sent packing by Charlton.

Some decline for him since he was at Cardiff.

Funny how the careers of himself, Walters, Keane and O'Neill have went since that infamous blowup.

It was like Custer's last stand for all of them.

You could even add Ward to that list. He was pretty much done at the top level after it as well.

Gas situation, he may as well sit tight at this stage of his career.

Nottingham Forest remain hopeful of reaching an agreement to terminate Harry Arter’s contract — but the situation has been complicated by the fact that the club’s promotion to the Premier League earned the midfielder an extra year on his deal and a pay rise.

As a result of the promotion clause Arter, 32, is now believed to be under contract until the end of the 2023-24 season.

In the short term, Forest plan on using Arter’s experience to help the development of the younger players in the under-21 side, with the former Bournemouth man continuing to train with them on a daily basis.

But the club also hope that a deal can be reached to allow him to revive his career elsewhere, with Arter not part of head coach Steve Cooper’s first-team plans.

Arter arrived at Forest in the summer of 2020, immediately after helping Fulham to promotion from the Championship during a loan spell in the capital.

But he has never managed to pin down a regular place in the Forest side, making only nine starts and five substitute appearances in all competitions.

Former Forest boss Chris Hughton informed Arter, a Republic of Ireland international, that he was surplus to requirements in the summer of 2021. Arter has subsequently been on loan with Charlton and Notts County, where he made nine appearances in the National League last season.

He is regarded as being a professional character who causes few issues in the dressing room — but he is also on a significant wage, which is a stumbling block when it comes to clubs potentially taking him on loan, particularly with the majority of his suitors likely to be clubs playing outside of the top two divisions. The extension to his contract will not help the situation.

Arter made his last Forest appearance in January 2021, when he started in a 1-0 FA Cup win over another of the clubs where he spent time on loan, Cardiff.

He’s on £2,080,000 a year with two years to go now rather than one. Even a team from the UAE is not going to equal or better that so I doubt if he cares about not playing. Nice way to ease into a very comfortable retirement.

That £40k p/w figure was before the promotion pay rise! Add at least another 10% onto that LOL

Thats 2mn net over the two years. Nice.

Only wY out is to hope a loan club pays a percentage of salary.

40k a week for Arter in the Championship is insane!

Fair play to him.
