Another meltdown when he wasn't being selected here.

It was far across the sea,
When the devil got a hold of me,
He wouldn't set me free,
So he kept me soul for ransom.

He's a good player, he'd hardly be the first player ever to go on to win Ireland caps having played in L1.
We're decent enough..

Correct, but he had an opportunity, turned it down and his career has taken a turn for the worse.

It's very unlikely he'll make an appearance for Ireland.

Again, I'm not sure it is that unlikely. He's still relatively young, and more and more of our players have had to take the route of dropping down a level before climbing back up. It's hardly an unusual career path anymore.

I suppose the only difference now is that we have as many players coming through now than we have had for along time.
So Kelly will have to push ahead of these guys now had he taken the opportunity a few years ago when the competition was less he could have been established in the international squad.

For me he won’t see much if any time in a green jersey.

There's been quite a few like that who turned down Ireland and bombed career wise

Sources tell @TheAthleticUK that several English Championship clubs have enquired about Jonathan Afolabi's loan availability. Understand Celtic are reluctant to let it happen at the moment particularly with the club's dearth of options up front but still a possibility.

It seems Lee O’Connor is set to join Oxford on loan. I guess that is the end of his career too.

A league one loan move is really good for a 19 year old player with zero senior league appearances in his career.

It's not particularly impressive for a 24 year old player who has made around 100 league appearances in his career, all at a higher level.

Jamie Vardy was playing for Fleetwood when he was 24!

Thats sort of my point though. Kelly has already played plenty in the Championship between 20-23. Its impossible to deny his last year (including this loan) is a dissapointment. He can obviously come back from it though, its clear there is talent there.

The context is key alright. For example, if the 24 year old just had a big move away that didn’t work out, a loan move to a third division club near where he grew up and playing football that suited his abilities would probably be the right one for him.

And the fact that everyone knows that shows how rare it is to reach the top level having played that far down the pyramid at that age. Vardy a total one off but used as an example to hype up countless useless lower league players.
