An Antiques Collector Pablo Perez from Valencia came across this Barca pennant from 1937.
It's from a Mediterranean League game from 1937 during the SCW against Levante which Barca won 2-1. Patrick and Barca won the league which Barca see as a La Liga title. The pennant was presented to FC Barcelona recently and now sits in the Camp Nou museum. It's the oldest pennant on display in the Camp Nou museum now. Nollaig Shona |

At ease gentlemen.
For anyone on hols in Barcelona June or any ex pats there - Don Patricio film premiering in Barcelona Offside Film Festival Thurs June 6th. “Patrick O’Connell may not be as well known to younger generations, but he was a brave and loyal coach who gave himself to the club during a very difficult time here, an epoch of civil war. He left an indelible mark on every club he spent time with, greatly contributing to an increase in the popularity of football.” Josep Maria Bartomeau FCB President https://www.facebook.com/offsidefestival/ |

At ease gentlemen... a little bit of light reading...
The story of Isidro Lángara signed by Patrick while at Oviedo as an 18 year old..went on to win the Pichichi award three years in a row and broke all sorts of La Liga records. Wrote this for the Guardian's BTLM today link below... the greatest striker you never heard of. https://beyondthelastman.com/2020/04/01/isidro-langara-a-son-of-oviedo/ 'To clasp the hands in prayer is the beginning of an uprising against the disorder of the world (Karl Barth).' |

Thanks for posting - I love reading that kind of thing. Meanwhile, veering away from PO'C, but staying on the theme of "the greatest striker you never heard of", I was in Cadiz last year and had to take a look at Cadiz CF's stadium (no game on). The club shop window was full of stuff on their greatest ever player, Jorge "El Magico" Gonzales: It seems that when you add his lifestyle choices to his outrageous skill, you could call him "The Salvadorean George Best"! And Maradona says he was one of the top ten players he's ever seen, who could do things even he (DM) couldn't do. |

Yeah there seems to be a lot of forgotten heroes, look at Charlie O'Hagan from Donegal who was around at the start for Sevilla CF. Was talking to a chap from United yesterday while writing this piece https://thefootballfaithful.com/jack-charltons-last-days-of-champagne-supernova/ and he mentioned Adrian Doherty from Strabane apparently as good as 'Best' they reckoned when he was at United. Cadiz BTW is a lovely part of Spain... God help them at the moment in Spain. |

I really enjoyed that, thanks. Just one query about Di Stefano; I am fairly certain he only played in Argentina, Colombia and Spain and therefore could only have achieved a goalscoring title on two continents.

Doherty came through the same time as Giggs and by all accounts every bit as good if not better. Injuries ended him. A bit of an eccentric character by all accounts not your typical footballer. Think it was Oliver Kay done a book about him 'Forever Young', definitely worth a read.

Is Doherty the guy that drowned in a Dutch canal or something like that?

It would damage this forums' reputation
