Does anybody actually remember seeing footage of the 1992 US Cup game between Ireland and Portugal? It looks like there is only one photo and nothing else.

How come there was no fat kids in Dublin in the 80s?  When I went to school everyone was at their correct weight or under nourished.  There was fast food back then and processed food.

Were there many games in Italia 90 that didn’t finish 0-0, 1-0 or 1–1?

I know England Cameroon was one. Can’t think of any more

Brutal world cup.  A few games finished 2-0 and 2-1.  Think the Germans beat some team 4-0 int he group stage.

England were planned to be put in isolation in Sardinia long before the draw if I recall

Think it had been agreed between the Italian and UK Governments that England would play their group games there to contain the hooligan element on the island while probably hoping most of the hooligans would have gone (or been sent) home before the knockout stages on the mainland.

I remember the games being dull.
Was the back pass rule brought in after that World Cup as it was such a boring tactic to waste time?
Yet it changed football in many ways both here and in England that tournament

After Euro 92 I think.

The games were sh*te.  USA 94 was better apart from the final.

It was a good world cup for many reasons but definitely not for footballing reasons

Yeah, (West) Germany beat Yugoslavia 4-1 and United Arab Emirates 5-1. There were a couple of other wins by fairly big score lines eg Czechs beating USA 5-1 and Costa Rica 4-1. Those, along with that England-Cameroon game were the only real high-scoring games in a tournament where caution was the order of the day.

South Africa in 2010 was just as bad for the same reason - too many defensive-minded coaches sending their teams out to avoid losing which resulted in so many poor matches. Dead

2010 was awful. So many draws either single goal or nil-nil. The QF stage was about the only redeeming factor and the final was septic.

In some English pubs you get those pint glasses with handles.  You always see pints of bitter in them.  You never see them here.  Wots all that about Jeff?

How many Irish pubs serve bitter?

I rarely if ever see Irish pubs with those old style beer taps that are ubiquitous in English pubs.

I'm partial to a few pints of bitter.

I use to drink John Smiths a lot in my younger years.

He wouldn't set me free,
So he kept me soul for ransom.

Some of those beers and ales can be fantastic. They can be a little overlooked for something more commercial

No computers so kids couldn't sit around all day playing video games and watching Netflix etc, less cars so kids had to walk to school, more fast food outlets available nowadays for parents especially on their phones.
