I usually dont want the FA Cup especially the early rounds.  Looked up the scoreline to this game since you left this post.

1-0

What's so amazing about this?Confused

The early rounds are the only rounds to watch. Who wants tonsee all premier league ties in the late stages. Boring. Gimme newcastle cambridge type games every day of the week.

TBH I barely watch it and only watch the final if I'm at home and there's nothing else on tv.

The FA Cup died when they knocked down the old Wembley and even then since about 1996 it was on the slide.

Since then its a 3rd rate competition and doesnt capture my imagination anymore.

I kind of agree its not the same since the old wembley has gone. I loved watching games in that stadium. I cudnt be bothered watching the final these days or even the semi final unless a small team makes it. Still like the old fashioned big team v small team ties in the 3rd and 4th round though.

There used to be a certain tradition to the FA Cup.  The walk up the steps to get the cup, the twin towers, the cup final song, the tv build up from early morning etc... That's what the FA Cup was and its all gone now.

The decline started in 1991 with the Wembley semi finals.   That took a certain gloss off of reaching Wembley which was a privilege for finalists only.

Then the next step in the decline was sponsoring the cup with Littlewoods coming in.

Then the Champions League spots going to top 3 in the league in the late 90s.

Then moving to Cardiff.

The new Wembley is a soulless bowl and cant recapture the magic of the old stadium.

It has died a death and only small clubs take it seriously.  Money ruined it and money will ruin the World Cup and European Championships also.

I think the 1st proper game i remember watching in the FA Cup was the semi final between sheff wed v sheff utd in 93. Great old memories. I prob watched other games before that but its the 1st huge one i remember.

Also there was far far less football on tv back then so a live game on tv was a bit of a special occasion and a novelty.

Now there's far too many games on tv that its just another game.

Over saturation of football caused by greed and money.

The FA Cup Final is a final of the big business bastards. It will have no soul. It will be

Snickers v Nike

Man U’s jaunt to Brazil in 2000 was the beginning of the end. The six years in Cardiff didn’t help. They also messed with the times of the final and it has little sense of occasion.

But to your point about saturation, for those who didn’t have Sky in the 1990s, apart from European Cup you could go for months without seeing any football between two English teams, and the first week of January was an occasion with a bumper MOTD on the Saturday, followed by a live tie on Sunday.

IIRC with a slight delay. 94/95 was almost weekly. I remember 1995/1996 they showed Leeds v Wimbledon (with the Yeboah goal) and never again.

Yes.  They had Hillsborough live in 1989.  I remember that as it was my first vivid memory of watching the FA Cup.

Yeah they also had FA Cup.  I remember Blackburn v Newcastle Feb 1993 in the 5th round being on RTE

Definitely had a delay in a lot of games.

I think the Blackburn v Newcastle game I mentioned in Feb 1993 was either a 15 minute or 30 min delay

Yes I forgot to mention that alright.  Even Keane said in his book that Utd couldn't give a sh*te about the FA Cup

The 1993 Man U v Sheffield Wendesday was shown too. I think somebody on here was watching it in a city centre pub, but celebrations had started upstairs where it was on the radio and people heard Bruce’s goal before it was broadcast on RTÉ. I was in Quinnsworth at the time and got a box of Monsters in My Pocket.

I only discovered the time lapse a few years ago. I wasn’t really interested in watching the clock so it didn’t make much difference! Just wanted to watch football.
