Do we have to watch a load of sh*te games like Chelsea reserves V Derby etc.. now all this weekend?Cry

Used to be good in the late 80's and early 90's but the FA cup has become a boring tournament of almost no importance.  The romance of the cup and all that bollox...Lower clubs going nuts when they knock out Aston Villa's U-16 team etc..

the FA should have the balls to award a CL place to the winners or to the runners up if the winners are in the CL , that would bring back some serious interest.

Nail on the head. Would be much better to see another actual competition winner make it into the champions league than a 4th place finisher in the league. The cartel of the big clubs in the Premier League will never let this happen though I'm guessing.

ypu would have to seed the draw then in every round. a championship club could easily get a draw where they dont meet a top division team until final where they play city and are suddenly in champions league

Watching BT the other day they were advertising this and one of the commentators (might have been Ian Darke) goes "This will be a cracking tie", I had to laugh as there was no way he could have been serious.

Last year was probably the best FA Cup of my lifetime.

Mk Dons V Wimbledon
Liverpool only beating Mansfield 2-1 with a Suarez hand
Brentford 2-2 Chelsea
Oldham beating Liverpool 3-2
And then Wigan going and winning the thing against City with a late goal in the final.

All magical cup moments.

Apparently this is the 42nd consecutive time that Man U have been televised in a live FA cup game.

Not surprising given their popularity, but I disagree somewhat with the OP. Although equally I've no desire to see the PL teams line out their reserves, I would like to see the romance of the cup been exploited more with the likes of Rochdale v Leeds or similar been shown instead.

I hate FA weekend for an entirely different reason as I cannot really get any bets on with the clarity that league games sometimes provide, as I never know until KO which sides are going to play their reserves.
F'instance, Stoke V Leicester may well see an almost full strength Stoke side against a second string Championship side, as promotion may be by far Liecester's biggest priority.
Then again, It could be vice versa. Will be keeping me shekels in the pocket this weekend.

I know it could deprive small clubs of revenue but I would prefer if they scrapped the replays in the FA Cup.It would free up more dates and reduce a fixture backlog.Ties would be a lot more exciting being decided on the day plus the winner gets a champions league place though it'll never happen.Could you imagine the FA not having possibly Liverpool,Man Utd next season and a team like last seasons winners Wigan in it instead?!They simply wouldn't do it.It was great to see Wigan beating moneybags city last season as the competition badly needed that rather than have winners like City and Chelsea every year or any of the other top teams really

FA cup used to be the business when I was a younglad. They talk about it npow in the same way as the speak of 1966 but the romance is gone. Top teams don't take it seriously despite what they say in public and still have enough personnel to win it. Wigan last year was an exception. It should be back to normal this year.

Fancy Everton to doo well considering they have been sh*te in the competition for the past 20 years.

Decent fare this wkd. Worse thing is the adverts, tv, bt sport, telling us all how great the cup is, the magic, the romance of it all yadda yadda. It's lost its charm of bygone years but still worth the watch. Some things should never have been changed, the timing of the draw for example, should always be after the last game on the Sunday.

They could probably do with him at the moment. But with Holt gone on loan to Villa he's going to stay for the course of the season. Phil Neville has been at a good few games this season to watch him.

This only suits the big teams.

Smaller clubs survive by doing well the competition, not to mention the lower tier teams getting a glamorous fixture against one of the top teams.

TV money, gate reciepts, merchandise etc..

Maybe so, but the big teams never play their best team against the minnows, usually fielding youth players, reserves with a few first team players. It's not like it was in the 80's where a Liverpool team would play its best team against the sh*t sides. It was important then. Its utterly meaningless now. The only way to save the competition would be as DennisIrwin says play it like the Carling Cup midweek under the lights and give a Champions League place for the winner. I personally rank the Carling Cup far higher these days. Far more exciting and you hardly know its on until all the sh*t teams have been knocked out.

Yahoo Clap Great draw. This season is going to have some amount of twists and turns left in it yet.

im a liverpool fan as well im happy enough with it, said last night id have liked city, i think its good having a big cup tie to look forward to where if we win we've a good chance of winning the cup (with one of city or chelsea going out as well), and if we're not going to win the cup it might be no harm going out next round and avoiding injuries in the cup with the race for c l places so close

Tough draw but like they say to be the best you got to beat the best. We get through this round however and am we are second favourites so something to look forward to

I wonder will Arsenal us their fringe players for the tie?

Arsenal have to play United at home 3 days before and Munich 3 days after.

I'd say that Wenger will see both the League and CL games as a high priority.
