In the 4 or so years you have that car I have had 3 different cars (including a 2016 VRS which sold for the same price as buying it for 2 years and 25kms later) and haven't had to do as much as change a bulb!! You've had serious bad luck with that yoke.

That reminds me - I need 2 new tyres LOL

Thought as much, that’s why I was sending you to a main dealer!

My local mechanic will replace the part, he has ordered it now and it will take 10 days.

He said it might have to be re-mapped by a main dealer as his diag machine may not be able to do it - he was not sure on this.  It's a risk that I took.

Any thoughts on that?

Unsurprisingly the main dealer and not able to recognise the new control module that was replaced, because wanted to replace the part themselves.

My calculator is not able to display the figures involved in fixing a component that is not even needed in the car - very similar to the glow plugs issue which cost excess of 2k.

Hardly surprising when you're doing about 12kms a year.

Well my 'mate' refused to take my car in, which leads me to conclude that he knew they were going go rip me off and take me to the cleaners and wanted to part in it.

The missus took the car to get checked out as the amber engine management light came on last week! Mechanic said there was no issue and cleared the fault, couple of days later EML is back on, should I take it to another mechanic or is this a normal occurrence?

Take it to a mechanic and get him to take the lightbulb out behind the dash.

I've had issue alright but none that stopped the car from running.

Any car that goes back to a main dealer - your talking huge dollars.

I would never buy a new car, because you have to get your car serviced by the dealer and massive cost to service for stuff that really doesn't need to be done.

There are pro's and cons IMO. My auld paid buy new and add on the service plan so never have anything to worry about. I got a quote from Pilsen Skoda for a service last year and was pleasantly surprised to see they had fixed price servicing.

I just can't afford the buy any cars that interest me new!!

Seems a false economy horsey as you have had multiple issues with the car.

I think if you drive a banger or a 10 year old car no point in going to dealer but if it’s 5 years or younger it probably does.  No expert but that’s how I see it.

The service plan with Skoda has worked well for me I must say.

VRS’ are usually pretty bulletproof, you’ve had serious bad luck with that yoke

In this case I had no choice but to go to a main dealer. Because my local mechanic was not able to program the new part -  he did tell me this might happen before I went ahead it with.

Now they are saying there is issues with the new part (which I don't believe, because the mechanic showed me the new part was recognised and needs to be programmed in) but I can't prove it, and ultimately have to accept all these charges which are adding up by the hour.

Again far from an expert on this but I think with main dealers you go all in or not at all. They probably screw you if you only use them sometimes and use them as a last resort.  Again I would bow to fingers and sausy and Deise316 better judgment on this.

Very simply put
- I was advised go to the dealer
- I was advised no availability in 2023
- Local mechanic said I can do it but may not be able to program the part
- Part not recognised - so eventually got a booking with a dealer on the other side of the city weeks later.
- dealer removed all lube and excess moisture from my ass hole and went in hard and deep.
