I didn't realise Sky were getting the 3pm Saturday kick offs. That is interesting.

Also good that the monthly bill will be going down, I suppose.

But what does it mean for Champions League matches that RTE and TV3 choose not to broadcast?

You know what, I reckon I've figured it out. Eir wanted the same amount from Virgin they were currently getting, per customer. Virgin decided they were going to pay less, as a result of sky now owning the rights to the 3pm kick offs. I don't know whether Virgin are paying sky more (I'm guessing they aren't, seeing as the price hasn't went up for ordinary sky tv customers). Virgin were basically going to shaft their own customers (pay Eir less than they are currently paying, charge its own customers the same price, no reduction), Eir told them to get lost, Virgin threatened to pull out completely unless a lower price was agreed, and Eir called their bluff.

There are two options now: 1) Virgin go back with their tails between their legs and pay Eir what they were previously paying them (despite getting less actual content now) or 2) Eir realise what a massive loss it is and agree to some sort of reduction that doesn't harm their business model.

It seems like a clash of negotiating egos, rather than a smart business decision, on one if not both sides there.

Dropping Setanta/Eir & BT Sports from their package. So Eir will be the only provider with this available?

Probably a good thing as sports package with Sky and everything else bundled in is mad money.

Hello McG
At midnight on 31st July, Setanta Sports (including BT Sports) will no longer feature in our Virgin Media TV channels.
With the number of live Premier League matches on Setanta Sports being cut from 71 to 42 for 2016/17, we've been in talks with the broadcaster to review the value you get in this pack. As it was not possible to agree terms to allow us to offer you Setanta Sports at a reasonable price, we'll no longer carry the channels from the end of this month
Don't worry - your Sky Sports subscriptions means you can still enjoy the sporting action.
159 exclusive live Premier League matches, including Friday night games and 3pm Saturday kick-offs. That's 43 more than last year.
Golf including all four Majors and the Ryder Cup this September.
20 Exclusive live GAA matches.
And so much more!
You can even catch up on some of what you've missed On Demand.
And what's more, from 24th August we'll add the new Sky Sports Mix to our channel line-up at no extra cost.

Your Setanta subscription will end on 31st July
Setanta viewing will end automatically so you won't need to do a thing. Don't worry, if you're owed any money, you'll get it back on your August bill. You can cancel your Setanta subscription at any stage before this date without penalty.

It is pure rubbish, as are the Technicolor routers they send you if you are taking broadband only for them, I sent it straight back and got a Cisco which can be put in to gateway only mode and use my own router.

Using your own router with the Horizon box means you'll be double NAT for anything connecting to it the second box, makes certain things unusable such as online gaming, not as much an issue for other things but it'll slow up your network.

You are not double NATing anything.

I use a splitter for the STP and one for the router, as I said you can only have one active box, so the horizon box from a network perspective is idle and deactivated. (If you plug a cable into the horizon box with an active router, you will not get out to the internal because it's disabled).

I use the horizon box now as the WAP as I am waiting for my electrician to wire up the splitter so I can use other router that I have.

Some channels operate better than others. So manually set the channel to either 1 or 14, most default to 4-8.

There are different types of WIFI frequencies primarily 2.4 & 5 GHz.

You could try changing either of these -

2.4 - longer range - slower speeds.
5GHz - shorter range but higher speeds

I've a horizon box and couldn't be arsed f**king around with these settings so bought the Belkin extender for 25e

Nah, once they swapped the horizon box over for the original wifi router, I couldn't get any signal upstairs either. The horizon box is an absolute pile of sh*te. Doesn't even tell you when your storage is full so happily deletes your recordings for the few days it takes until you clock that they're disappearing.

You could manually try and chance the channel or frequency. If you have rock-wool insulation the signal will not travel correctly and will reduce the signal.

I bought the following to resolve a similar issue - Belkin N300 WiFi Range Extender.

Well I presume it's not my phone as it's generally ok when logging onto other wifi networks in cafes and restaurants etc..

What does changing the frequency do?

The wifi signal is poor from Horizon.  My phone doesn't pick up the signal well and it doesn't work upstairs.

It's hard to put into words what I think of this company. It is also a remarkable achievement by Virgin to actually worsen what I thought was already the poorest possible service provider experience imaginable. I really wish someone else had decent broadband as I would drop them in a heartbeat.

Having managed to get hold of an engineer on the phone, he said that he could see that we were fully paid til today but couldn't (or wouldn't?) turn us back on. He wouldn't give his name when asked and said that he could see that the 'customer loyalty section' had instructed it to be turned off. Has anyone heard the f**king likes of it?! Missed all the football, UFC, darts and movies over the weekend and could only send emails through my phone, which isn't ideal as I own an ecommerce business.

Shower of absolute scum. Who even gets the blame, UPC or Branson?? Felt like heading over to East Point business park to stab a random employee in the neck with a pen. Yes, I did just write that last sentence.

****s of the highest order. I cancelled my contract providing the required 30 days notice upon them changing their T&C's around this time last year. As such, I was entitled to terminate my contract with no penalty as they changed the T&Cs. Despite this, and receiving assurances on the phone, my next bill bore a €200 penalty for breaking the contract. I immediately cancelled the direct debit so even when the went to collect the few quid that was owed they didn't get it. Let them chase me for a while and see how they like it. Eventually I paid the last few quid owed less the €200 charge.

What pissed me off the most was that in Dec 2014 they rang me, offered my then current package for less if I signed up again for another 12 months. My contract was due to expire anyway so I thought that they just wanted to tie me down and were willing to offer a few quid off to retain me so I re-signed verbally. Then in Jan, a month later, I received the new T&Cs incl a price rise which would have resulted n my new bill dwarfing the previous subscription even prior to the little reduction they did give to get me to re-sign. I repeat, ****s of the highest order.

If the contract ended today and you were cut off new years day you should get compensated, that's absolute bullsh*t what happened. I thought they relocated because anytime i ring them now i'm talking to someone from the Philippines.
