Two good performances in row, should have beat Crues also but for sucker punch deep in injury time. Hale is excellent player. Three points against Glenavon on Saturday and we're sucking diesel.

Signed for Glentoran today. Paul O'Neill coming to Cliftonville in a swap that's part of the deal.

Don't know what the details of the deal were yet but O'Neill is a long term asset, a goal scorer, great pace, outstanding for NI under-21s and young enough to have a chance of making it at a higher level. Lot of pace up front now though Thomas Maguire has been sent on loan to Warrenpoint for the rest of the season. Expect to see Daire O'Connor playing a lot more now on left wing.

According to BBC, he is on full professional terms at Oval. Big loss. O Connor excellent, but they're still not getting ball to him as much as they should.

Glens fans glad to get McMenamin but very upset about losing O'Neill. He is already on the radar of a number of English clubs and they cannot fathom why he was included in the deal.

A goal and an assist and a shot inches wide, encouraging debut for O'Neill who could have a big future with the club.

Why in O’Neill’s case, a very promising player by all accounts and NI U21 international, did he take a drop from full time football to part time?

He wanted a move, I don't know why but the rotation system might not have suited him at Glentoran where they have other top forwards like Robbie McDaid and the Donnelly brothers. Also if he has a job, he could be better off with that plus a part-time football wage. Larne offered big money for McMenamin, who was set on going full time, but the Glens were ultra keen enough to sign him that they offered him an even better deal and Cliftonville were convinced by the prospect of getting O'Neill.

Are Glentoran flush with cash or something?

Seems a lot of decent players are going to play for them.

Seems a lot of clubs in the Irish League have plenty of money to spend, even during a pandemic

Glentoran are flush with cash since being taken over by Ali Pour, a wealthy Iranian businessman, last season. They bought a lot of quality players and won the Irish Cup. Larne have had a similar financial uplift since being taken over by Purple Bricks mogul Kenny Bruce, a local man. The club has been transformed, won their first trophy ( County Antrim Shield ) since 1987 and are now challenging for the league. Crusaders have done well by qualifying regularly for Europe and managing their finances well. Richest of the lot remain Linfield, a club that has effectively been a state sponsored enterprise for decades. Rest of the league clubs cannot compete with the comparative riches of these outfits.

Was there a fee for McMenamin? how much?

Would Larne not be richest of the lot or is it still Linfield?

Still Linfield, I believe. Don't know the details of the McMenamin deal but think it was some cash plus O'Neill.

I read the whole deal was around 85k.
Biggest deal between Irish League clubs since Linfield bought Glenn Ferguson for 55k from Glenavon in the early to mid 90s!!

I think Rory Donnelly to Swansea for 100k is still the biggest outgoing sale

I think you're right about Rory Donnelly, who was being pursued by other Premiership clubs including Liverpool and Everton when he was persuaded by Brendan Rodgers to sign for Swansea instead, but the Glenn Ferguson fee was narrowly beaten by the £60,000 that Crusaders paid Coleraine for Jamie McGonigle in 2019. Some crazy money around in the Irish League at the moment so I wouldn't be surprised at the numbers mentioned re McMenamin.
