I don't really get the logic to be honest. What's Adam Idah ever done to deserve being called up to Ireland squad? Not only the squad, but he's started more often than not. Is it cause he plays for Norwich?
Kenny sees beyond the individual's club scenario. It will be no different when it comes to Byrne.

When was the last time Byrne played a competitive game?

Yep, this is key and the same reason I don't think Brady, Arter or Molumby should be in the squad. |

When Byrne was flying he was only just about making the squad, Brady has been a key player and a player Kenny rates highly.
It will be interesting to see how makes the cut.

Daft comment. He was brilliant for Cambur in the Dutch league. He was brilliant for Rovers in the LOI. If he gets the right club and manager he will be brilliant again.

Well Idah has 30 league appearances for Norwich, including 13 in the Premier League, plus an FA Cup hattrick, all by age 20, despite missing much of last season through injury. He's five years younger than Byrne and has already reached a much higher level than him in the game - I don't really see much comparison between those two players to be honest.

That's just a load of stats comparing two different players in two different positions and two different points in their career. Still doesn't change the fact that he's not done much to be leading the line for Ireland. In this case, I'm giving Kenny benefit of the doubt that he bases decisions on the individual, not exclusively based on what happens at their club. Which is.why I assume he treats everyone equally, Byrne being no different. Based on reports, Duffy from Dundalk could be on the cusp of a call up. Ok. Wouldn't be who I'd be calling up, but if Kenny sees the bigger picture, then fair enough. Which boils down to my previous point. The players should be judged on how they play in the Ireland jersey and how well they suit the system Kenny wants to play.

Makes a lot of sense to call Duffy up, he's played nearly 30 games for Dundalk, he's fully match fit and on form. Unlike most of our other players.
Again, you must consider that there is 3 games to play, and most players are not able to play 2 games in 4 days.

His league form has been patchy all season. One of the best in the league over the last few years but has been way off it all season, much like the rest of his team.

Temporary loan to England before moving permanently to Charlotte fc. McDonnells sources would be very good so I think you can take it is exit from Apoel is final.

The piece about wanting to move him on in order to reduce the wage bill is interesting. Sounds like new manager or not, he will be off either way.

Whoever advised the Apoel move, for the sake of Byrne's career, hopefully still hasn't got an input.
The one thing constantly talked about when at Rovers was making sure his next move was the right one. Deary me. This is straight back to Oldham territory.

I'm not sure. I've said it before, but it takes serious guts for players to move outside of their comfort zone, and move to different countries, and adapt to different cultures. I maintain that like a year abroad (yes, I know the UK is aboard) a year in a location where there is a different language and a different culture, will help a player grow and mature as they navigate something different. A lot of young mature players in England are moving to Germany etc, and its now common place to see young English players in leagues that they wouldn't not be traditionally associated with.
If Byrne can make a move to the UK, this experience, while disappointing, may stand to him.

Graham Barrett is his agent, probably not someone you'd want to be taking advice from given how much a journeyman career he had himself with a number of poor choices.

Looking from the outside moving to Cyprus never looked like a great move. Many of us said it at the time. The minute i heard Cyprus alarm bells were ringing.

A new MLS team is not a great move. New management teams get thrown in the deep end and frequently get f**ked over

Be interesting to see the short-term loan offerings, if they do come to pass.
The MLS in the new year is a long way away. The European seasons have now started so he needs to be playing football so...er...."The Next Two Weeks Are Critical!"
