Regular internationals from countrys like Greece, Nigeria, Croatia and Slovakia to name a few, plenty of players players with La Liga experiance etc the standard is good and style of football will suit Byrne. Great move.

It is a decent League and he’s 24 not 34. Who’s to say he won’t get a bigger move again if he really impresses for them in the next 3 years which I think he may well do.
The League ought to suit him more than the Championship as well and the lad is a quality player. Good luck to him and I hope it works out.

iif he can nail down a two year contract he should jump at the chance, different lifestyle, warmer climate, possibly 10k ish a week it's the proverbial no-brainer....but the 2 years + is vital cos the way Apoel change managers (9 in last 11 years I read somewhere) unless Mick collects silverware or qualifies for Europe he'll be gone by next summer.

[QUOTE=Left foot]Cyprus is better than the LOI so it is a step up for Byrne but overall he's played in better leagues than this already, his best football was probably in the Eridivisie which is a higher standard than Cyprus and hes a better player now than he was then.
Hes 25 soon enough and should be playing his best football, it would be a shame to say his career has already peaked. [/QUOTEHe was playing in a poor team in holland,if he’s going to be a high earner,in a team that expects to win things he’s gonna have to hit the ground running in Cyprus....so he’ll have to pull his socks up from his kilmarnock and oldham days and he certainly won’t get the time and space he did in the LOI so it’s a move not without it’s pitfalls.at his age,the money offered.lifestyle (which could also be a problem for him) it’s a no brainer and like has been said..he’d stroll back here and be the league’s highest paid player.

I’d say he sees Cyprus as a far handier option..

It is a bigger move for him when you look at it. Hes 24 which is old enough to be considered an experienced player and someone in and around their prime.
If he doesn't do well in Cyprus for whatever reason, I can't see anyone taking a punt on him other than in the LOI going forward. I like Jack Byrne but failure there would make it extremely difficult for him to see a bigger team give him a shot and would probably see his international aspirations disappear... So it is a risk...

That's what I thought. Hed be lucky to make that in the championship. Even lower PL id say for a nobody in relative terms.

+1 They always have teams in the Champions league/ Europa league They are above the Swiss / Poland / Greece / Swedish leagues Lads with no idea about the Cyprus league saying it’s a bad move. More money, a higher standard, a better profile for him. Worst case scenario he is back in the LOI in 12 months. If he does well he has a better chance moving to a stronger league.

why wouldn’t he want a move there? Decent football, a manager he knows, a step up from where he’s at now, probably double or triple his salary and it’s a chance to experience a new language and culture for a young player.

Well its where footballers go to retire and not push themselves to excel... Ireland should be choosing the players playing at higher levels. Where i feel Cullen made a good move i don't think this move is on a par with that. |

Plenty of players have gone from Cyrpus to play for bigger clubs in Europe, its not just a place where footballers go to retire.
