What a farce! The only technically gifted midfielder we have in the squad that can pick a pass.

Let's call a spade a spade. Mick's thinking is.. he's a fancy player (who plays for Shamrock Rovers)
I feel for Jack. no matter how much you may want to stay with Rovers he knows that any hope of getting into the Ireland squad (should we qualify for the euros) will mean he'll have to be playing at a higher level. Still find it baffling that you wouldn't have him as an option on the bench.

this will be 11 men behind the ball hoping not to concede , arguably our passing will be slightly better than last time ! It's whether we can contain them or not for 90 min , i don't see any change at all in our shape , one way or the other we have 2 shots at qualification , i don't see mick changing much!

Most of the times I've seen Jack Byrne, he's been dominated by the Bohs midfield. We're not talking about Messi here ffs. Lads really believe he should be starting?

Most of time I've seen Hendrick he's been sh!t yet he's waltzed into the first 11 for the last 3 years. What's your point? We're talking about what a player can do on their day, regardless of club. I only care what a player does for Ireland (good or bad)
Option off the bench is all. If we play like Saturday and need some guile in midfield our only option is Judge, who while he has a decent ping in him, I don't think he's as willing to receive the ball in tight spaces, which inevitably opens up the pitch, creating the required space for opportunities. |

My point is that Byrne looks a flat track bully to me and he's not impressed me when I've seen him. Seems another one of those players who gets better for Ireland every time he doesn't jnsf I think Hendrick has generally been shocking for us btw but he'd tear up the LOI. I'd sooner Judge than Byrne. Regardless, frustrating as it is we'll be set up for a draw tonight.

He's had one very good game against us. Anonymous the rest. From what i've seen and heard, its been a similar story when he played Dundalk. I like him as a player, not so much his choice of club but he's a very tidy player. I don't think he's proven he can do it under pressure in the domestic league, and therefore i don't think it's totally unfair that he's left out of the 23 for an immensely pressurised game.

He was good against Bulgaria.
But I thought Bulgaria were the worst team I'd ever seen in Lansdowne and that includes Gibraltar.

Tells us what we already knew, we'll defend deep and try to nick a late goal.

I believe we are going to be atrocious tonight. We may get 🍀 lucky. Mick has got a lucky charm around him but it must end for good.

Because he can't be arsed when the going gets tough most of the time. He's definitely no Keith Buckley. This is actually pretty objective. Did he play well 4 games out of 5 against Bohs? Did he play well against Dundalk? Those have been the biggest games for Rovers thus far this season and he's been a non-factor in most of them. How then are we going to throw him into a huge stakes game away in Geneva?

i hate the **** when he plays for them but in analysing him when potentially playing for ireland i try to be as objective as possible - i would love if he ran the show tonight and won the game for us, were he playing. I just personally do not think he has shown in the league this year that he is capable of doing so in a high pressure game against good opposition. Switzerland are also many, many levels up from what he has played against competitively this year.

I have criticised Byrne myself, but has shown more in an Ireland shirt than Alan Browne. Could deffo do a job in midfield for us, can’t be any worse than Hendrick tbh

He produced the best playmaking performance for Ireland V Bulgaria that I have seen in a number of years. He played better than Hendrick or Hourihane have against similar opposition.
