A real shame. The league is better with a Waterford team in it

Three years though, if it goes sour after 18 months we can't afford to pay him off |

At least you have an if Vidic. Waterford are just f**ked. Be easier if they folded now

Mixed views from Waterford United fans on this from looking at social media. He will generate a lot of publicity but how long will he stay around for and could it leave the club in a worse financial situation if things go wrong?
We're bottom of the first division so can't go any lower and the whole club needs a shake up as we've been in the graveyard for 8 seasons now and the fans have lost faith so it might be worth a gamble.

Harps fans last night Waterford played really well last night...Play like that every week and they would be challenging for the playoffs. The right winger killed us

With Showwaddaroddy you can always go lower. If you are still in existence by the end of the season it will be a miracle

It was heading that way anyway PM. We have been on a serious downward spiral since it started to go wrong for Henderson & the club decided to dispense of his services, leading to a court case which Henderson correctly won, and costing them money that isn't there. Subsequent local managers & teams mainly made up of local lads have managed to disimprove that situation every season since. (to be fair to Paul O'Brien, he did have 1 good season, losing in the playoff to Dundalk, whatever happened them ??) As for Roderick, I don't think anyone is under any illusion that it will end in tears (it always does), but the way things are at the moment, the destination (oblivion) was going to happen anyway, whether Roddy is there or not. The football, if you could call it that, has been shocking, we have a current record of 2 wins from the past 24 games, and sit bottom of a sh*te first division, FFS Harps are winning it handy, and with respect, they are nothing near the level of some teams we have seen here in recent years, Cork, Shels of about 4 years ago, Mons, Derry, Longford and even last season's Athlone. Or even ourselves in Hendo's 2nd season, or O'Brien's first one 3-4 years ago. Whatever money they are paying him , I feel would be better spent on better players, but at the same time, what is needed right now is arses on seats, and presumably that had a factor in Roddy's (unconfirmed) appointment. The 2 playoffs we recently got to , especially the one V Mons, had the RSC full or near it, that is a far cry from the 300 (and dwindling weekly) people we get these days, the majority of whom are either pensioners or students on concession tickets, which isn't of huge financial value to the club. Short term anyway, he might be the man to do that, though long term surely financial ruin is headed our way. |

In fairness he might do alright for you, given no expectation and working with young lads, he is still a highly respected coach lets not forget. But I'd agree three years is a bit silly |

I`m with you on that one "Bitored" - a UCD merger with Cabinteely makes a lot of practical sense. UCD have always been the most poorly supported team in the LOI and I can only imagine what their gates are like this season in Div 1.
I was looking recently at population figures from the 2011 census. After Dublin and Cork, the Borough of Dun Laoghaire came in 3rd with 185,000. There`s surely serious potential there for a fanbase, while still keeping the scholarship ethos of UCD within any new structure. Croly is a great coach and I often think his management gig at Rovers was premature. He had no track record in man management apart from assistant roles in Inchicore. His stint at Tallaght backfired spectacularly and he`ll be keen to redeem his reputation at Bray and prove his doubters wrong. Sounds like a good appointment, even if the 3 year contract seems excessive. As for Waterford, they remind me of Leeds or Hamburg in the bundesliga. A once mighty club who ruled the roost in the LOI, it`s hard to believe how low they`ve slipped down through the ranks. All I know about Waterford as a city is that it`s an unemployment blackspot right now, so they could certainly do with a winning team to give the place an uplift. |

The 1st Division suits Roddy perfectly. Hes the right fit for Waterford right now. He will be talking away in Papers and on the radio which will put bums on seats. He knows how to motivate young players so you now have a fighting chance with the Rodster is charge. Look what he did with Athlone and of course it did end in tears, but at least they where crying in the Premier Division |

Maybe Roddy's appointment will prove disastrous but hopefully it will prove cathartic for the club.
God forbid that the Blues simply disappear like so many Munster teams. |

DB, do you think you have a board that will stand up to Roddy or will push things out to 'match his ambition'?

The club's board have taken the easy way out. The club is f**ked so we appoint Roddy and he can be the scapegoat. Just fold now so we don't have to listen to him and his horrible junky voice

To be honest RTID I feel that Roddy's ego , force of personality & refusal to adhere to budgetary requirements may prove too much for the board or indeed the club itself to handle , hopefully the rumours that local businessmen are sponsoring his wages are correct ! On the other hand the Club is at an all time low & Roddy has been sporadically successful at engineering improvements so here's hoping ! |

He has a track record in that league. To be fair to him he made us very solid defensively and had the Lads very fit
The ball Daschle awful to watch though and he was a lunatic off the pitch |
