The ones that got away should be players who were considering playing for us, i mean Rio, Anton, Keown etc etc never had any intention of playing for us!

Plus there are a few suspect names on there who i'd have my doubts they were eligible to play for us in the first place.

As for the likes of Knight, Gallen, Kitson etc etc "getting away" , more like lucky escape for us!!

Doesn't Keown say he was brought up very Irish and it kind of just a progession that he played for England but he always felt Irish. He would be a player I would say did get away as we probably could have swayed him if we got in early.

Yeah he wanted to play for us, was it not something to do with his under age caps with England? His parents are from Fermanagh I believe, does he not visit there fairly often?
He was asked about this one night on TV3, he said his dad encouraged him to play for England because the country had given him a job, a place to live, etc and it was their way of giving back
If I have any kids who are eligible for England they won't be getting any such advice!

Jesus Id have never thought that from a royalist like yourself LOL

Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

Yea but back then, a B or under 21 cap meant you couldn't switch. I thought thats what the story was anyway. Open to correction of course

The Bruce story was, he was contacted by Charlton pre USA 1994. He was all set to declare and Ferguson stopped it as he felt Bruce needed to recover over the Summer due to his age. Bruce then turned it down as he felt it would stop him getting a contract renewel for the following year. Read this at the time Alex Bruce declared for us

FAI chased him when he was out on loan at various points but he was fast-tracked by the FA into the u21s then into the senior England team (main reason why they gave him a cap in the qualifier against Ukraine)

Pat crerand never qualified to play for us, despite both his parents being Irish. FIFA law at the time was you had to be born in the country or live in it for two, I think, years.
