Always good to know can relax next time in Croker. There is no ground in the world that I would refuse to attend outright. Small minded Murph.

Tbf not small minded at all. There’s 3 arguments here: 1. Giving money to “that” association (not a rovers supporters, but what Thomas Davis did would turn anyone off the gaa 2. Being bitter about paying through the nose to play there (that’s me too) 3. It’s a s*** stadium for football. I won’t be back there either

As I said small minded and bitter and twisted to add too.
Murph gives his money to an org that were every bit as bad as the GAA. In addition some of the finest entertainment can be had in Croke Park on a summer's day with an All Ireland hurling semi final or final. A number of the Dublin V Mayo Dublin V Kerry games of a few years have been top class entertainment.. For pure entertainment value there was a period of 5 or 6 years and the contrast between the entertainment in Croker in September compared to what trap and o Neill were serving us up was remarkable. It's not a football stadium that's for sure as it's designed for 30 people playing at.the one time. Dont forget it also hosts concerts, so murph is ruling them out also. Small minded it certainly is.

Let me tell ya this now. If I read as much as one more anti GAA comment out of Murph he'll end up in the boot of a Renault Megane or find himself tied to a tree in Sixmilebridge |

Of course it is. Nobody is saying you should be forced to go to Croke Park. But it is a small minded decision in my opinion based on a dislike of the GAA I suspect. Also what would you do if the village people reformed and played Croke Park.

I went to all the football matches there and almost all the rugby games. I would go back if football or rugby was played there but can perfectly understand the reluctance of football fans to go there. I know one fan who hadn't missed a home game for years absolutely refused to go. He is still a passionate follower of domestic football but nowhere near as regular for the national team. Another who follows us home and away agonised right up to the morning of the Wales game and went in the end. I have heard of others who did not go. I'm not old enough to remember the Ban being lifted but the mentality lasted for at least a decade afterwards. I certainly remember the 70's and to a lesser extent the 80's. Broken glass being spread in goalmouths Throwing a 17-year-old out of a car ten miles from home Expelling children from school (not just Liam Brady). Children's futures being ruined because they were caught playing the sport they loved. By and large in the Republic it has changed. Thomas Davis are now the exception rather than the norm. Only 2 of the 26 counties in the Republic voted against opening Croke Park (Cork & Monaghan). Northern Ireland of course voted 100% against. Although even they have created a GAA club in East Belfast that encourages anyone to play. |
