I guess it is subjective. I find him childish and arrogant while trying to come across as intelligent and knowledgeable. His columns in the Irish Times are easily the worst things in it.
The podcast sounds like it was put together on work experience. There's no organisation or logic, but they have all the confidence of such a youthful endeavor. I admire their chutzpah as people clearly buy into it. Maybe they have improved in recent times, but hearing or seeing Mick Wallace's lovechild makes me immediately think the worst. Regardless, even if their work was sublime, this cross-pollination of topics seems to be uniquely Irish and I can't think of a single time it has ever worked.

You sound fierce jealous of their success, which is very well merited |

Why on earth would I be jealous of their success? Never mind 'fierce' jealous! I admire good journalism, particularly good sports writing and commentary, but I feel it is an area Ireland has lacked in for some time and their 'success' is, to me at least, proof of that.

Am current listening to one called "Real Dictators" which profiles the likes of Chairman Mao, Kim Jong Il, Stalin etc. Pretty interesting.

Have listened to the first couple of episodes, worth listening too. Another one to keep an eye out for is "Where is George Gibney?" made by the Second Captains lads along with BBC Sounds. The first episode is up on Spotify. For anyone who doesn't know who he is, he was a famed swimming coach who sexually abused some of the swimmers he coached and fled to America in the 90's. Seems like episodes will be released weekly.

What I like about Three Castles Burning is they're only a half hour. He packs a lot in. Where Is George Gibney is very good. The Second Captains lads are very good at what they do |

For anyone looking for something to listen to, I had a radio documentary on Newstalk over the weekend. Might be of interest to those missing gigs and festivals.
It's called Dancing In The Floodlights and is about the first large scale rock music festival in Dublin, Thin Lizzy at Dalymount in 1977. It tells the story of how that first concert came about, the impact it had on some of those who made it happen, who attended and who performed. It combines original interviews with Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham, Radiators from Space singer Steve Averill (aka Steve Rapid), Concert Promoters Pat and Marie Murphy, DJ Pat James and Journalist Frank McNally alongside music and archive footage from the time. Also available on Spotify etc as part of Newstalk's Documentary and Drama series. Edited by Drumcondra 69er - 31 Aug 2020 at 8:39am |
