Baptism on the decline.

Baptism barrier removed from schools.

Mass attendance dwindling, Census figures falling by the year (or every 5 years).

Number of priests extremely low and rapidly declining due to average age of Irish priests being 70.

The big challenge is trying to remove them from a number of State schools, because at the moment they are grossly over represented. If and when that begins to take effect, communion and confirmation numbers will absolutely decline.

Slowly but surely.

Most of the people dying would be from an age where they were strongly Catholic, so it natural enough the funeral will be the last Catholic ceremony to suffer a dramatic fall in numbers.

Also, people have to arrange funerals quickly and the local church have a near monopoly
on venues and the knowledge in arranging such at the moment.
I think it is a matter of time before funerals become much more family orientated and will be the better for it. There will still be a need for a spiritual side though as it part of the healing process when someone passes.

It reminds me of the John Halligan story last week. Funny how he admitted to not qualifying for the role of godparent, yet still called the Catholic Church petty for it. There remains an element in Irish society who would struggle to give up the festive days.

Both were Catholic, one late 60's and the other early 80's.

One service was in Newlands and the other in a deconsecrated Methodist Church in Celbridge.

I love a funeral where the priest hasn't a clue about the person that dies and just sh*tes on about stuff completely irrelevant to that person. I'd be spinning in my grave if that happened to me

I'd love a Catholic funeral and have Highway to Hell played as they carry me out.

Not sure what your point is here. I mean, I've told my entire family that if they give me a Catholic funeral that I will absolutely haunt them.

Catholic funerals are also on the decline, by the way. As well as weddings, baptisms etc etc etc

David Brent in his standup gave the wrong names to priest and the family were pissing themselves laughing during the funeral of his Mother....

SVP have a clothes bank in our local church's car park. Due to the lack of support from SVP for a No votw (despite having little to no political engagement in any referenda I can remember), the church has instructed them to have it removed, with the cost of removal €200. Another fine day for a sham of an organisation.
