Great win for Quigley against the 2011 world champion. Hopefully Conlon can beat the Russian later on to add to the fantastic displays from the three lads earlier. Fair f*cks to all at the high performance unit - yet another superb achievment.

Our most successful sport by a country mile when it comes to medals and titles.
This particular batch of fighters are certainly that bit special. |

I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.

All four are guaranteed at least silver medals after winning their European Championship semi-final bouts in a stunning day of success in Minsk.
Paddy Barnes is into the light-flyweight final after defeating Salman Alizada of Azerbaijan. Barnes won all three rounds in some style, unanimously scoring 10:9 from each judge. John-Joe Nevin followed with a split decision victory to reach his bantamweight final. Despite constant pressure from Russian opponent Wladimir Nikitin, the Mullingar man found time and space to pick him off with a lovely variety of shots, while also showing great movement to avoid being caught. Jason Quigley faced a fierce challenge against Yevhen Khytrov, who won the middleweight gold at the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Baku. The 22-year-old Donegal man wasn’t intimidated though and came out strong, attacking the Ukranian world champion to take all three rounds for the best win of his career in the fight of the day. Michael Conlan won on a split decision against Ovik Ogannisian, Conlan took more of an initative in the first round compared to his Russian opponent. Despite a late charge from Ogannisian, Conlan progressed 30-27 28-29 30-27. He will face Welsh boxer Andrew Selby in the decider. There will be live television coverage of the finals of the European Boxing Championship from 11.45am on Saturday 8 June on RTÉ Two and RTÉ.ie (Ireland only). |

He's technically poor but he's great to watch, just a brawler who's throws hell for leather, maidana vs rios is one that should already have happened!
