Could very well be his contract states senior team and he's stubborn enough to be senior team or pay me to sit at home rather than get involved with the underage teams. |

For someone so sensitive to their media image it’s a bizzare decision by Robbie to not be proactive in terminating or changing the deal. Could have had an easy win PR wise for small amount of money to him. Easily could have converted it into some ambassador sh*te for 50k a year to show up to 2 or 3 events for example.

It's disappointing when someone who has gotten so much - a career, a life, money, achievement, friends, acclaim etc - from some venue in life then seems to nickle and dime over what to them is a relatively minor amount of money. He hasn't been shafted, it's simply that Kenny thought there are people better suited to the job than Robbie. This will be a big part of how people remember him.

Whatever about the initial stages of the contract. But for it to be still as it is in limbo is shameful. It's a part of his legacy that will be remembered just as much as his goals.

I dont get the massive uproar over Keane and his contract. He worked 2 of the 4 years of it then was essentially stuck on gardening leave for the remainder of it because Kenny didnt want him and the FAI couldn't find an alternate role for him. Why would he or should he walk away from that? After all John Delaney got a severance deal of €462k after running the association into the ground. Mick McCarthy got €1.2m. O'Neill & Keane got a combined €1.9m. f**k all mentioned about them. Roy golden boy Keane especially who was on f**king €600k a year as an assistant. Would it have made any difference if Robbie took the final 2 year €500k as a lump sum 2 years ago and fecked off then via a "undisclosed" severance like the others? Thats probably what would have under normal circumstances. |

100% correct. Short memories, rampant hypocrisy. Well said and backed up, Bandwagon.

It's a nonsense situation but let's be honest people have never really warmed to Robbie (and I'm probably in that camp) so he never gets the credit he actually deserves for his achievements and always has people pretty eager to criticise him.
At the end of the day he's one of our greatest ever players and the last couple years shouldn't taint anything of his legacy ffs. To suggest this will be remembered as much as his goals... come on like. Being honest I forgot he was ever part of the staff or on this contract other than a passing joke on the odd podcast. Yeah it's a sham of a situation but as mentioned above if he just took a severence and we were never told the amount, nobody would bat an eye. In 10 years time I don't think people will say "yeah he scored 68 international goals but remember those 2 years where he took money that he was owed? Shocking".

Something that Bandwagon didn't note, and is pretty relevant, is that Mick McCarthy didn't even solicit Robbie Keane. He was foisted on him. It was a short-term and lucrative gig for Mick, so obviously he wasn't going to kick up a fuss about it.
That's what rubs me the wrong way the most TBH. It would be an easier pill to swallow if he was selected for the role by the previous manager; or if he was qualified for the role on merit; or if he looked like he had the slightest clue what he's doing. But none of these things are true. I've seen his drills for Ireland and it was rudimentary stuff to put it kindly; amateurish stuff if I'm being blunt. I've also heard his tenure at Middlesbrough being compared to something from Mike Bassett: England Manager from people who follow the club, and it's no coincidence that Woodgate didn't bring him with him to his next managerial appointment. People can go on about the exorbitant sums spent on Roy but he was wanted and selected by the incoming manager. He also commanded a media profile that would get a lot of that money back. Robbie blagged his way into the role. It's understandable that people would look at his and his wife's social media profile, their jetsetting lifestyle, and get pissed off about things when the FAI don't have two cents to rub together.

Robert reminds me of a child who goes downstairs on Christmas morning to find an orange and a packet of Smarties in his Christmas Stocking. He wants more.

Would they have not wanted robbie keane sticking around in case the Kenny train crashed? would have been an easy (even just temporary) managers appointment to fill the gap?

A coach no one wanted on a contract longer than the manager & the managers replacement standard FAI business.
