Pep got fined for wearing a yellow ribbon, I look forward to a glut of fines in November.

Says he's going to wear it today. Standing up for his beliefs |

Everyone knows I'm not Pep's biggest fan at all but the fine was pathetic.
Double standards by the FA to cry to Fifa about being fined for wearing a poppy but they'll fine 1 of their own league Managers for a different belief.

With PG, they warned him twice previously that he could wear the ribbon in Press Conferences etc, but not pitchside. When he studiously refused both times, what else could they do? And what next? Paolo Di Canio wearing a fascist ribbon? Luis Suarez and Racism? I mean, that's just "standing up for your beliefs too" |

Doesn't need to. Has a Dux tattoo on his arm which the FA turned a blind eye to during his time at Swindon and Sunderland. Like it or not the poppy is as much as a political symbol as the yellow ribbon is, the FA are just deciding ontop of their head on what's right or wrong.

I mean, a certain James McClean has a Free Derry tattoo - maybe that's not "political" either? Anyhow, perhaps the Scottish FA might have advised their English counterparts? Or didn't Di Canio also play up there for some team?
And when it came to the Poppy, FIFA agreed that it did not contravene the ban on political symbols and could legitimately be worn. So I would suggest that you're talking off the top of your head.

Would it not be easier to ban - or allow - all symbols? Thereby removing any potential confusion as to what constitutes a political symbol or not. Teams can wear black armbands whenever they choose as a sign of respect - all other (potentially) political symbols outlawed. |

And if there is any doubt (which there clearly isn't with PG's ribbon), FIFA determines. As for the alternative of allowing all, that could never work, since it would encourage certain players/teams/Associations to adopt whatever they liked, leading to boycotts, counter protests and fan disturbances etc.

It would have been a shame if City only won the league so a double is just reward for the season they’ve had.
Not sure about the champ league - if have them as 3/4th favs. |

At the start of the season I’d have settled for the league just, but after how good they’ve been then, and as I said last week just one trophy at this stage would have been a bit of a disappointment. Good to add another trophy to go along with the league Don’t think City will win the CL this year either but will enjoy seeing how far they can go. |

I definitely wouldn't be writing City off for the CL.
It's one from City, Real, Barca and Bayern, and Real and Barca aren't even through to the quarters yet. City could win it only having to beat one of those other three to do it. |

If you watched today's game you'll see why we won't win the CL.city gave up a few chances to a poor enough Arsenal team...better sides will kill us off.we only needed to play well in a 20/25min spell to win the cup today....first have was poor from both sides

I suppose - like the OP - it would seem some seem not to be. I.e. it's a subjective rule.

From the Daily Mail's match ratings yesterday:
Manager: Pep Guardiola - 8 Stuck to his principles by wearing the yellow ribbon and clinched a first trophy in England. I wonder would they say James McClean "stuck to his principles" in November. |

that's a good point. probably because UK have no involvement in the spain/catalonia feud as to why they are giving him such leeway. now, hypothetical situation, but what if pep wore something in relation to spain taking back control of gibraltar, I wonder if that rag would give him the same dues?!
