Thought he had a good game but lazy defending for their opener. He looked busted with 20 mins left, shocking level of fitness for a professional athlete midway through a season, unless he was carrying a knock.

could not be a fitness issue cause anyone that watches him for Wolves knows that hes up and down the pitch like a yoyo all game. in fact this is one of his strong points. how could he be that tired last night anymore than usual.

He used the ball excellently in the final 30 minutes, but it was a crucial error for their goal, and proof why Coleman will still be the first choice RB.

Easy to forget he nearly cost us at the end aswell, he played a 25-30 yard pass right accross the halfway line that was under hit and nearly sent the Denmark forward through one on one

Possibly, but last night also showed what we've potentially been missing out on by not playing a system that best facilitates our strongest players. Doherty was excellent going forward and in a 3-5-2 system (similar to that used by both Sheffield United and Wolves) would not be required to defend as much. Such a system would also offer some much needed support in attack to McGoldrick. Stevens has done well at LB but he too would almost certainly be more comfortable playing the same wing back position he does for his club. Instead we've persisted with a 4-5-1 formation that requires wingers to function properly - and the only real out and out one of those we have is McClean who, like a lot of our attacking players, is probably better without the ball than with it. I understand McCarthy is more comfortable employing a system he knows well but it really doesn't appear to be one that gets the most out of our squad. |

He was exhausted at the end which resulted in some sloppy play. Played one aimless cross field ball straight into touch, rushed a cross that he had time to take a touch on and obviously completely switched off for their goal. Made up for that with his goal which was superb full back play from creating the initial chance to keeping his run going to get onto the end of the second ball. Was a slightly mixed bag for me but Coleman hasn't been the same since the leg break tbh.

Don't think many could disagree with that. Coleman is definitely a better defender but Doherty seems to have more to his game going forward. Unless we switch to a 3-5-2, or actually play our most effective players in the system when we play this system, Doherty won't be apart of the starting XI. It's still baffling how Mick choose not to play both Doherty and Stevens as the wing backs against Switzerland.

It’s unfortunately so baffling it hurts that when we finally tried wingbacks we didn’t use the 2 wingbacks excelling every week in the premier league at that position..

Remember years ago we were all concerned about Coleman's defensive qualities and wondered if we could have used him in a wing back/winger type role

I'm a bit surprised the criticism of Doherty for their goal is so universal, there's definitely no doubt he's at fault but Duffy is way too deep as well, I think he deserves some criticism for his positioning because he's out of line with the rest of his defenders and he plays your man on. Doherty mostly at fault but Duffy also deserves some blame imo.
Doherty was excellent in the last half hour going forward and like has been mentioned I think both he and Enda Stevens' performances shows what we could be doing with a wing-back system.

And when Braithwaite applied the finish, he was about 5 yards out. Randolph could have claimed it too.
