Been around a while and becoming more common. Tests rarely last the full 5 these days. Symptom of shortened versions of the game becoming more popular.

The tour of India is underway. Well the tour of Dehra Dun, North West India to be more precise, for games in all 3 formats against Afghanistan.
Starting with the T20 series, where we're one down with 2 to play this weekend. We're now 17th in the world rankings and have gone 8 T20 games against Afghanistan without a win. Next week, the ODI series begins, and our first "away" test match against them starts on March 15.

The world record score for T20I has just been set. Unfortunately it's against Ireland.
To save the series, we were set 279 to win. Finished 84 runs short in the end. Edited by planning - 23 Feb 2019 at 5:01pm |

We're now 11 T20 games without a win against Afghanistan, following another series whitewash. Rashid Khan took 4 wickets in 4 balls, and 11 wickets of the 20 we lost during the series. We just can't deal with him unfortunately. Our last win against them at this level was in 2013.
The ODI series of the tour begins on Thursday morning. |

The ODI Series finished 2-2.
Having lost the first game, the second brought no result. Balbirnie had his Weetabix before the third, hitting 145 not out as we levelled the series in the third game. He followed it up with a duck in the next game, as we lost by over 100 runs. We won the last game by 5 wickets as the series finished all square. The Test Match starts on 15 March.

The Test Match started well enough. Porterfield won the toss and decided to bat, on a notoriously slow pitch where batting last looked difficult. With 40-odd for the first wicket, the opening partnership went swimmingly until it fell, and everyone lost their heads. 41/1 soon became 59/6, and eventually 69/8. 3 hours in, we were 82/9 and all over the place. Murtagh at No. 11 steadied the ship with an impressive half century, and put up an 84 run partnership with Dockrell to have us limp to 172 all out after 2 full sessions.
The Afghans bat out the rest of the day cutting our lead in half. They resumed the next morning by adding another 20 runs without loss. They started to pull away after that, as our bowlers frustration mounted. Eventually the third wicket of the innings fell 3 hours in. Rahmat Shah made 98 as they took the lead. When his wicket fell, the others soon followed, however they were 314 all out and we were well up against it, needing 142 runs to avoid an innings defeat. With an hour left of the day to hold out, Porterfield went two balls in without even a run on the board. Day 2 ended with us 120 runs behind. Needing realistically to bat the day out to save the match, morning 3 started well, even though Stirling went 10 balls in after a terrible lbw decision. With the opening partnership back in the hutch and just 33 on the board, Balbirnie came in to steady the ship with newbie James Cameron Dow, and they were both still there by lunch, with the deficit almost wiped out. With 5 more runs required, the next wicket fell and within half an hour, our nemesis Rashid Khan had bowled for 3 hours, finally found his range, and we were 6 wickets down after another dodgy decision against Thompson. Then KOB came in and hit another Test half century, as we took a 78 run lead at tea. It came at a bad time though, and soon after it, Khan had taken another 3 wickets in 3 overs. With at least 3, possibly 4 questionable umpire decisions during the innings, we were jist 88 runs ahead. No. 11 Murtagh put up another decent stand to leave us having to defend 146 to win. It was always going to be a big ask, and despite taking an early wicket, the Afghans wrapped it up by lunch in Day 4. We lost by 7 wickets, and are the only Full Member side still to win a Test Match. The next opportunity is at Lords at the end of July. Before then, we have a number of home ODI in Malahide, starting with England on 3 May, followed swiftly by a triangular series against West Indies and Bangladesh.

Warren Deutrom loaned Cricket Ireland €100k to cover wages, sounds familiar.... On the pitch, England will whittle us out for next to nothing it looks like.
