Was watching that clip earlier and never noticed that Stephen Ward wore number 2 before.

Best of luck to JOS, great career for us and no mention of him should leave out the goal in Gelsenkirchen V Germany, what a way to celebrate his 100th cap.

Well done JOS on a great career - both for club and country. It's great that he'll always be remembered for the goal away to Germany. The nutmeg on Figo was great an all, but the fact he did it in the red of United and not the green of Ireland means I'm glad it's no longer considered the abiding moment of his career. Goals don't come much bigger than that one in Gelsenkirchen.

Sadly missed. In his peak, he was probably one of the first names down on the team sheet.

Another legend calls time , an absolute roll model for any young and upcoming player on how to go about carrying themselves in the modern game, a gent on and off the field and a big hole left in the international team set up now, enjoy a hugely earned retirement JOS gave everything for his country and more

It just hit me there, but he's the last of our "minor golden generation", so speak. Given, Keane, Duff, Dunne, and now JOS all gone.

Great player , great man.
His achievements allied to his demeanor & the fact that he never lost his Waterford accent added a spring to every Waterford persons step. Well done boy .

A ham and cheese roll model? A great servant to us alright, think he could have had an even better career( not that it is in anyway shabby!) if he had been developed in one position instead of four. Still, that just goes to show the sort of lad he seems to be, a true professional.

Absolute Legend Enjoy the retirement John. Would love to see him become a successful manager or coach and be back involved with Ireland sometime in the future.

Well done to JOS on a great contribution to the Irish setup. Over 100 caps, two major tournaments (unfortunate it wasn’t more), unwaveringly committed to the cause. His membership of the top 5 Most decorated Irish players is just reward for his outstanding contribute.
Enjoy retirement.
