Not sure about this signing but the one big plus is it's not Eric Dier. |

40 million on a player who'll be 29 in a month's time. I suppose they'll get at least 3 years out of him.

Main gripe I'd have about it is that it's not exactly a signing to provoke huge excitement. But you know what you'll get from matic, a very good solid player in a position that United need reinforcements in

A rather uninspiring buy but we know what he can do.
40 mill is crazy though.

Dier was also just about the only England player to emerge with any credit from the Euro2016 fiasco too. Plus he's still only 23, but already has 100 Prem appearances and 19 full caps. |

Benching your best centre midfielder is probably why you's came up just short in your title bid. |

"Best midfielder" Better than Alli?
Goto bed son. You've said some silly stuff lately but this tops it

He was awful against Iceland, perhaps only Hart was worse for England. He was partly responsible for both goals and kept giving it away. He lived up to his name against Scotland recently too. Spurs fans I have come across are of the opinion that Wanyama makes him look better than what he is.

Thing is though, in 2015/16, Poch mostly used him in a deeper MF role, usually alongside Dier. But he had Wanyama last season who was outstanding, and it is notable that Moussa made way for him, not Dier. Meanwhile, when he did play, it was much further forward than previously, which is fair enough, since he's so good on the ball that he can do it. However, you still can't say he's Spurs best "centre midfielder", when Spurs have Eriksson and Dele Alli available to them, both virtually undroppable last season. Meanwhile, Alli scored 22 goals for Spurs last season and Eriksen got 10. Moussa got one. With hindsight, I don't agree that picking Dembele more often would have made any difference to Spurs' title challenge. For imo there wasn't much more Spurs could have done last season, since 86 points would have seen them Champion most seasons. Sometimes you've just got to hold your hands up and admit another team were better. The filthy Chelsea ****s... Edited by Territorial - 27 Jun 2017 at 3:16pm |

Doesn't do it consistently enough Dembele. Shows flashes of brilliance, but if he was so good he'd be starting every week

Neither is Eric Dier. Who's a defensive midfielder/Makeshift Centre back.

He's barely a footballer! Iwould only class Dier, Dembele and Wanyama as their centre midfielders, Eriksen and Alli attacking midfielders. |
