The issue is Man United need quality and quantity. The squad is thread bare. They lack any sort of experienced head up front for one position. For me, United need an Anelka type character for that position. Battle hardened and been around the block and produces. Then you’ve midfield, they need Viera/Keane and then wing backs and CB. And that’s just the starting line up, they need players to come off the bench and make an impact. Man United won’t bridge the gap over 12/24 months, it’s a long slog I’d suggest. English football now has an absolute fascination to buy within the league. Chilwell of Leicester isn’t worth half of the value Leicester will get for him, there’s much better talent in Spain/Italy/France. What ever happened to the likes of Wenger who found talent abroad and developed them in England. Ferguson done it as well, Ronaldo the obvious example.

United had 33 shots V Copenhagen/Seville, but only scored through 2 penalties. Shows they're creating plenty but don't have a ruthless finisher in the team. Van Nistelrooy, Van Persie, (even Lukaku) would scored in both rounds I reckon.
At the back, Lindelof is to me the opposite of Duffy. Does a lot on the ball, but I reckon Duffy would have got his head to that cross for the second goal.

Yeah the squad is thin at United quality wise. Look at the bench last night and they'd Mata or Ighalo to change things.
Funny that having spent around a billion pound on players since Ferguson left that the squad is so thin, and across Manchester, City have spent something similar and are also in need of several signings to get back up to challenging for the title this summer due to some big players leaving or coming to the end of their careers. United have done a good job recently in getting rid of about half of the dead wood at the club, but still need to shift another few. The likes of Jones and Rojo for example. I also think they need to address their defence, need a holding midfield player and probably a forward to add competition to Rashford, Greenwood and Martial Big close season ahead for both Manchester clubs Liverpool will be licking their lips at the state some of their so called rivals are currently in. If they add Thiago which is widely rumoured then they'll be incredibly hard to stop Edited by Roberto Baggio - 17 Aug 2020 at 11:48am |

Fair assessment. United have been allowed to stagnate for a long time. Ole has made the right moves in terms of squad building, but more is needed. It has never been the problem that money is not available for United (despite ole having a net spend slightly above Villa's) but that decisions on when the money is available do not seem to be made with football in mind. There is no point in united hiring world class negotiators and scouts when ultimately Joel Glazer will have sole authority to decide how much Jadon Sancho is worth as a footballer. It's why stupid sums have been spent on the wrong players and why players with less Instagram followers see united refusing to pay the asking price. Is United's squad good enough as it stands to win the league? The answer is clearly no. Therefore, changes need to occur. There's no point saying that Mata cost 35 million pounds 8 years ago or an Inter Milan player once cost as much as he was sold for once upon a time as to why the squad should be winning titles now. As it stands, a rebuild is still required, and whoever spent before Ole is of no relevance to him. Neither is it totally fair to point out his spend purely in who he brought in. He sold the most expensive striker in the world, brought in zero replacement for him and turned the younger lads into one of the most prolific attacks in Europe. Good progress this season, very disappointing to exit the cups in the way it happened, but a good enough first season for OGS to get a passing grade. He deserves further backing this summer and will be expected to continue to progress the team further next year.

Last minute bid from Utd to hijack the Gabriel move from Lille to Arsenal.
I generally hate "x player being linked" posts as 99% of them are untrue but Di Marzio is 1 of the more trusted sources out there

Read one of the reports. Was him and his mates actually scrapping the police?!
I wouldn't mess with the police out in those places like Spain, Turkey or Greece. They hit first and ask questions later and would love nothing better than to start flaking boozed up Brits who are looking for trouble. Not trying to be biased, but wouldn't have figured Maguire as the rowdy type tbh.

Trying to bribe the cops didn't help either. Maguire is reputedly on around £190,000 a week. Could be interesting. I'd hazard a wild guess that he'll be getting some good natured ribbing from opposing fans about this when the crowds are allowed back.

By next week Chelsea will likely to have signed Werner, Ziyech, Chillwell, Thiago Silva and Havertz. Woodward and the owners are doing a great job, keep it up.

It sounds fairly serious. Punching with fists and beating police officers then offering to pay them off. Should be looking at doing time

Maguire found guilty of resisting arrest, aggravated assault and attempts to bribe. Dope.
