Seamus' appearance tonight for Everton moves him ahead of Kenny Cunningham into the top 10 Irish players in terms of Premier League appearances.

1. Shay Given 451
2. John O'Shea 445
3. Richard Dunne 431
4. Damien Duff 392
5. Stephen Carr 377
6. Roy Keane 366
7. Rory Delap 359
8. Robbie Keane 349
9. Shane Long 344
10. Seamus Coleman 336

Those 10 won't change for a long time, probably 10 years at least, as there's nobody else currently playing at that level who is anywhere near them in terms of appearances. Someone like Nathan Collins or Gavin Bazunu might be next to break in to it some time in the 2030s.

The abuse he gets from Everton fans is ridiculous. The whole team were sh*te yesterday but they seem to scapegoat Seamus every single time. Calls for him to retire mid season etc. Have a look on twitter or on grandoldteam if you want a laugh.

Thought he did fine yesterday, telling that Barnes scored after Seamus went off. Still don't think he will be first choice come March barring an injury to Patterson so he has to be an unlikely starter for Ireland going forward.

I get its PL appearances only, so you don't look at stats for players from the 60s, 70's etc, but for players who straddled both eras I think it's fair to include both? Thus, for example, Denis Irwin has 328 PL appearances but has 71 First Division (top tier, not the Championship) appearances so he is on 399 in truth. I'd imagine Roy Keane also has extra appearances to add as might others.

Just the way of it unfortunately - rightly or wrongly most of these stats were reset in 1992 when the Premier League was formed. You're correct though, Keane's first two seasons at Forest were in the old first division so he'd have about 70 more on a list of top flight appearances - but this is a Premier League specific list which is why he is where he is. He still wouldn't be ahead of Given or O'Shea either way.

Tony Dunne probably has most top tier appearances by an Irish player between his time with Utd and Bolton..

Has been superb since coming on. Couple of great interventions to deny De Bruyne and Foden.

May be some life in the old dog yet, Patterson was absolutely torn to shreds tonight and is now off injured.
We're decent enough..

Patterson looking like another massive waste of money by Everton going by tonight. He's young enough though to be fair.
