It's no wonder Coleman isn't as effective for us as with Everton. Generally gets the ball in our half rather than the oppositions, and rarely has someone in front of him to link up with when he does get the ball. He's a great attacking full back but these differences severely limit his attacking capabilities for us.

Would Coleman be able to play the centre mid position?

As a right mid in the way Kerr sometimes employed Finnan, or Mick employed Gary Kelly. With Doherty available it makes perfect sense.

if we go back to a flat 442 doherty and coleman might work on the right hand side.
could he play right of a back 3 and be given licence to step into midfield and play? not under oneill anyway, he likes 3 stoppers. another option would be to go something like this. Randolph Duffy Clark/Long/ Doherty Stephens Mc Carthy Coleman Hendrick Brady Maguire/Long Robinson |

I mentioned this before.
We have Coleman, Doherty and to a lesser extent Christie all playing for the right full position, yet struggle to find a technically proficient player in the center of the park. Austria have deployed Alba into a central midfield role too. |

Coleman is arguably the best suited of our three right backs to play more centrally.
I’m not suggesting that he should be deployed there, but he’s technically better than most of our other midfielders.

been banging the coleman as part of back 3 drum for awhile. could look like below, with everyone fit Randolph Coleman Duffy Clark/Egan/K Long/Keogh Doherty McCarthy Arter Brady/Stevens then there are some options for the attack from s long, Maguire, robinson, pushing brady further forward, mcclean, hendrick. seems like it would maximize what we have available. |

When I said centrally, I actually meant as a midfielder, but wouldn't mind seeing him in a back three either. Randz Doherty Duffy Long Stevens Coleman McCarthy O'Dowda Robinson Brady Maguire We'd lose nothing from dropping one of Christie, Arter, Meyler from midfield, and Coleman might even do a better job than one of them.

Personally I think he has all the attributes of someone who can lead the line for us. I would be more concerned about injuries than ability.
