Villa have hired some dreadful managers over the past ten years. Gerrard was awful, unqualified - a couple of seasons in Scotland's pathetic goldfish bowl is no preparation for an EPL job. It would be the same for Celtic's Ange Postecoglou whose overblown stint with the Socceroos followed by the SPFL duopoly is a million miles from Premiership life. He wouldn't last six months. Of the list above, Pochettino would be a top appointment but his financial demands across salary and transfer funds would test the rich Villa owners.

He then left.  In fairness to Postecoglou, his domestic record is good but still, at very best, a mid Championship-level application CV. Nobody had heard of him when he got the Celtic job. Again, he's done what was asked in a league where finishing second is abject failure. But EPL? Don't think so.
